Materials Compatibility Scientist

Location: Reading/ Basingstoke area

Would you like to use your skills to play a key role in assessing materials and improving the understanding of ageing phenomena of a range of organic, inorganic, metallic, explosive and fissile materials? If so, the Materials Compatibility Team have exciting opportunities available in materials assessment and experimental design for experienced hires.

Applying your expertise, you will work to increase understanding relating to the physical and chemical properties of a wide range of material types whilst simultaneously working alongside materials modellers to develop predictive models to assess how these properties change with age.

We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with experience or knowledge in the field of materials assessment to understand chemical interactions (compatibility).

It is desirable that you can demonstrate the following:

  • Degree level knowledge of a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Chemistry or Materials Science)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Experience of working with materials of different types including polymers, ceramics and/or metals
  • Experience in a range of experimental techniques including structural spectroscopy, thermal methods and electrochemistry

Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role and be willing and able to work in designated areas to working patterns.
