Manufacturing Quality Manager

Elmdene International Ltd is a leading manufacturer of Fire & Security ancillary equipment based in Portsmouth Hampshire. It has been established for over 50 years and has an exciting roadmap of future product developments.

We are now looking for an experienced Manufacturing Quality Manager to lead improvmeents within our UK and Chinese Production Facilities. This person will demonstrate an energy and enthusiasm to deliver these improvements and have the ability to communicate effectively throughout the company to ensure the improvmeents are realised.

General Objective of Position

To maintain accreditation to ISO9001 and ensure compliance to H&S and Environmental policies and procedures. To drive necessary quality improvements throughout the organisation

General Responsibilities

  • To ensure Elmdene retains 3rd party certification to ISO9001 by implementation of a suitable management system to which all employees are working to
  • To ensure Elmdene implements its defined H&S and Environmental policies and procedures
  • To measure company product, supplier and process performance and to drive/lead appropriate improvement teams
  • To offer improvements in company to drive efficiency improvements
  • To liaise and lead with all 3rd party accreditation audit bodies and to ensure timely completion of any CAPA reports
  • To manage the GII team (based in UK and China) x 2 employees
  • To manage the production support team in UK X 3 employees

General Tasks

QMS

  • To ensure Elmdene documented mgt system is compliant with the latest version of ISO9001, and is communicated & understood at all levels of the organisation
  • To lead the annual QM review meetings with the senior management team, including preparation of the annual results and trend analysis
  • Working with the Tech Support Engineer, ensure all customer complaints are responded to in a timely manner and that suitable corrective and preventive actions are recorded
  • To prepare for and lead all 3rd party audits and ensuring all prior NCRs are closed in a timely manner
  • Ensure a suitable internal audit programme (product and process) is maintained (utilising appropriately trained internal auditors) and that all NCRs are recorded and tracked to closure in a timely manner

CONTINUAL IMPROVEMENT

  • To hold and lead the 1/4ly BSC meetings and progress any agreed improvements
  • To measure all company non-conformances (customer complaints, internal audit NCRs, supplier NCNs, concessions and RMAs) and identify any trends with a view of implementing preventive action on TOP 3
  • Review all company activities and identify areas for efficiency improvements then implement

MANAGE PRODUCTION SUPPORT

  • To manage priorities of UK production Support Team (covering test equipment maintenance, calibrations and product non-conformance)
  • To co-ordinate the company concession note system and ensure appropriate CAPA is completed
  • Oversee management of New products into Production

SUPPLY CHAIN QUALITY

  • Working with Goods in Inspection and Global procurement, ensure all supplier NCNS are responded to in a timely manner and that a suitable CAPA report is received.
  • As above, identify the top 3 supplier problems and working with the relevant suppliers eradicate those problems to enable efficiencies at Elmdene to be realised
  • Ensure all major suppliers are performing to required standards via Vendor Rating analysis

Essential skills/experience

  • IQA qualified
  • Six Sigma trained
  • At least 3 years within a manufacturing environment in either a QA or manufacturing Engineering role
  • At least 3 years experience in implementing and maintaining a QMS to 9001
  • Prior involvement in QM reviews
  • Internal auditor
  • Competent in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to communicate confidently at all levels of the organisation
  • Awareness of sampling inspection plans to BS6001
  • Experience of international supplier quality mgt
  • Prepared to travel oversees

Desirable skills/experience

  • At least 3 years within a electronics manufacturing environment in a QA role
  • Experience of implementing and maintaining a EMS to 14001
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation
  • Experience working with Far East suppliers
  • Electronics/mechanical/Production Engineer qualified
  • Experience in leading product approval audits (UL, FM, VDS etc)
  • People management skills
