Our client is a growing, business operating from a purpose build new facility in Staffordshire. The company supplies large OEMs in the automotive, construction equipment, hydraulic and wider engineering markets with precision machined, coated and engineered metal components that meet ISO 9001 and TS16949/IATF 16949 requirements.
Clear and motivational operational/manufacturing leadership, that encourages engagement, whilst stretching and improving performance levels, is a vital part of the business improvement challenge. The factory has not, until recently, had pertinent KPIs or been exposed to lean and 6 Sigma techniques. Introducing these, and other, more modern practices, is a real opportunity for an effective operations leader to build on the strong foundations in the business and begin to further differentiate the company in the marketplace.
Key Objectives/Main Responsibilities
Provide motivational leadership to a large group of production and traditional employees covering some shift working.
Develop and train an effective group of team leaders that can lead and motivate within the manufacturing area
Lead the effective introduction of, and engagement in, key KPIs that measure and deliver improvements in Quality, Cost and Delivery
Lead the introduction of improved communication methods to support engagement in the improvement of KPIs
Play a pivotal role in the introduction of 5S and other techniques to improve cleanliness, orderliness and visual standards across the business but in particular in the factory.
Become a key member of the senior leadership group/board of the business developing, evolving and implementing the strategic direction of the company
Alongside the senior team lead the improvement and introduction of more effective HR policies and practices in the company
Play an important role in the development, proposal and effective introduction of the ambitious capital investment programme in the business
Lead and support the introduction of a Planned Preventative Maintained Program across the manufacturing area
Support the Customer Account Managers in delivering parts on time, and in full, and in the development of long term relationships with customers.
Support the Quality and Technical Manager in ensuring that the ISO 9001 and TS 16949/IATF 16949 systems, procedures and disciplines are rigorously maintained and followed throughout the business
Support the New Business Development and Quality/Technical Manager in New Part Introduction ensuring that new parts are produced right first time and delivered on time through team working and involvement
Become actively involved in the engagement of suppliers and driving improved performance levels from the supplier base
Practical experience in an operational/manufacturing leadership role working in a business supplying into the automotive or similar engineering markets
Sound knowledge, and extensive practical experience, of introducing lean and 6 sigma practices into a traditional manufacturing environment
Practiced at leading change in a constructive manner that engages skilled employees whilst delivering on Quality, Cost and Delivery improvements
Experience of working in a precision engineering environment supplying into a demanding OEM or automotive customer base. This should ideally involve CNC machining but certainly metals or metal related products
Experience of managing in a systemised quality environment like TS16969/IATF16949 or ISO 9001
Passionate about continuous improvement and the involvement of all employees in improvement projects
Practiced at using visual management to communicate to the business as all levels
Knowledge of modern Health and Safety practices, requirements and techniques and experience of ensuring that these are followed on daily basis
Experienced at leading multi-functional teams to improve metrics in a precision engineering environment
Comfortable in communicating to, working alongside and liaising with customers and their commercial, quality and technical teams
Enthusiastic, committed, robust, resilient and undeterred by challenging situations, people and materials
Ambitious and keen to develop in a dynamic and expanding business
