Manufacturing Engineering Team LeaderFareham£34K - £39KPermanentRole PurposeTo Lead the Manufacturing Engineering team under the guidance of the Head of Operations to ensure that the business has the capability to produce goods and services safely to the planned cost, quality and delivery schedule.To integrate with other functional groups and the various NPI Project managers to successfully introduce new products into Operations.Provide expertise and support with regards to the hardware associated with the testing of PCBA`s both at subcontractors and in-house.To provide expertise in the use of formal problem solving techniques to eliminate barriers to performance.To ensure that capital investment is managed to secure benchmark capability in manufacture of components, assemblies, final integration and test.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelops and maintains robust, cost efficient and safe manufacturing processes and product structures consistent the principles of lean manufacturing. Must be mindful of process and test capabilities and recognize organizational core competencies. Employs structured approach to root cause problem solving where quality, cost or delivery are substandard as a result of process definition or capability rather than jumping to "quick fixes".Implements methods and practices to reduce variation. Demonstrates ability to understand source(s) of variation and identify impact by applying problem solving techniques such as Six Sigma Design andDevelopment strategies, designed experiments and SPC.Leads cost-out events and promotes culture of continuous improvement. Applies lean manufacturing techniques as means to eliminate waste and deliver products to customer`s expectations.Participates in concurrent engineering efforts and critical design reviews to minimize product development costs and maximize useful life of products. Conducts Design for Manufacturing and value engineering initiatives as applicable. Develops work breakdown structures as a tool to develop cost estimates.Develops and integrates new processes and methodologies as to provide competitive advantages for the business. Composes Capital Appropriation Requests (including payback and net present value analysis) for acquisition of equipment to support emerging and existing technologies. Trains associates as required.Provide visual management tools to track performance and leading indicators that impact quality, cost and delivery as they relate to capability.Key Skills / ExperienceDemonstrable understanding and experience of the end to end manufacturing processes within an electro mechanical assembly environment.Demonstrable wiring and electronic equipment manufacturing experience.Experience of developing product, assembly and component level BOMs and associated manufacturing support information.Previous experience of supervising or leading a small team is desirable, but not essential.Technical competenciesBSc or equivalent in a relevant subject area.Good working knowledge of PCBA testing methodologies.Good understanding of MRP and material planning techniques.Strong IT and analytical skills including database manipulation.Behavioural CompetenciesA `Zero Harm` approach to Health; Safety and the Environment.Maintaining a safe and organised working environment.A proactive approach to problem solving.A "can do" approach to work and the satisfaction of customers` requirements.Discipline in logging business systems information (route card).A willingness to learn new technologies and product ranges.Generating and accepting feedback to drive improvements in business process.Diligence and enthusiasm.Accuracy and attention to detail.Being prepared to challenge current ways of working and looking for continual improvement.Additional Relevant InformationPreparedness to undergo UK Security Clearance.Preparedness to work outside of core working hours as and when required.Occasional travel to supplier facilities.
