*The incumbent will work directly with suppliers to understand their manufacturing processes (including special processes), techniques and risks and assist them in successfully producing quality hardware. Inevitably suppliers have manufacturing problems and the incumbent will be expected to evaluate the situation, determine root cause and guide the suppliers through to successful implementation of corrective actions.
*The incumbent will be expected to understand the basic design performance requirements and manufacturing techniques of the outsourced products enabling him/her to make sound, independent and educated decisions to produce conforming product. The Manufacturing Engineer will assist suppliers with developing their manufacturing methods via PRA's (Part Risk Assessment) and workshops typically at the supplier's site.
*He/She must be capable of detailed blue print interpretation and preparing accurate 'should cost' estimates for new proposal targets and have a good knowledge of manufacturing time standards.
*The role will involve a combination of proactive tasks designed to reduce risk and yield stable and capable processes and reactive tasks addressing issues on existing product or processes. The position will be responsible for coaching and facilitating the use of a range of improvement methods at suppliers and operating various processes.
*The incumbent shall use his/her experience and sound judgement to develop, adapt and modify suppliers manufacturing processes, he/she must help solve suppliers manufacturing problems. Typical problems include; clarifying requirements flow down, measurement correlation/ capability, fixturing/ tooling/ machine issues, special process issues. Supporting the supplier to solve these problems may require the Manufacturing Engineer's decision alone, or could result in contacting and working with other members of the Manufacturing Engineering Department, Product or Design Engineers, Quality Assurance personnel, M & P Engineers, Inspectors or Purchasing. The Manufacturing Engineer must possess the inter-personal skills necessary to work effectively with a variety of people and also the influencing skills needed to ensure effectiveness.
*The incumbent must be prepared to travel approx. 30% of his/her time mostly in the UK and Europe region however occasional travel to other countries and other sites will be required.
*Bachelor's degree in relevant engineering discipline
*Experience of special processes and surface treatments would be an advantage.
*Lean Sigma GB or BB accreditation would be an advantage as would a knowledge of APQP methodologies.
