With their communication skills and insight they aim to transform the effectiveness of company activities to manage the safety of chemicals in the products they buy, use and sell. From chemical feedstocks to everyday products such as clothing, cars, electronics and toys, every sector has an agenda to assess and substitute chemicals of concern motivated by regulatory or supply chain pressure and increasingly by its own sustainability aspirations.
Their journalists work from home with regular daily virtual interaction and frequent face-to-face meetings.
Reporting to the Editorial Director, the successful candidate will run our busy features desk, commissioning articles from the team of in-house and freelance journalists and external contributors as well as working with analysts to deliver quality features and analysis pieces for their websites and two annual guides. You will travel frequently to events, most outside the UK, and will have a high profile role in moderating panel discussions at our conferences and chairing our webinars.
They are looking for an experienced journalist who has demonstrable people and management skills, a strong news sense, pride in the quality of their work and a desire to make every article have an impact. You will bring excellent commissioning, editing and writing skills and will know how to craft compelling features. A knowledge of how products are made, business drivers and how supply chains work will be a distinct advantage and you will be willing to learn rapidly about the world of chemicals safety, regulation and management.
Your duties and responsibilities will include:
- Planning and commissioning an ongoing programme of features, comment and analysis from our in-house teams of journalists and analysts, and from external experts;
- Editing features and analysis to a high standard;
- Working with the news editor, desk editors and reporters to manage delivery of features alongside their news writing responsibilities.
- Contributing to wider company projects and discussions
- Writing some features and news as needs dictate and time allows
- Joining our stable of experts who moderate/present at conferences and webinars
