Overall role purpose

In our Go Beyond network strategy 2025 our vision is to become ‘the most valued network in the profession’.

This role sits within the newly established International Business Support Function. The team has been created to support member firms in gaining a competitive edge as they win and serve more international businesses – in line with the network’s growth agenda.

This new role will support member firms worldwide as they systematically drive greater sales effectiveness, with a particular focus on winning and expanding relationships with major international businesses.

The role holder will bring new insights, based on their extensive sales enablement and international pursuit experience, to further enhance Grant Thornton’s approach. They will ensure that we identify and replicate best practices from across the network and the wider industry. Ultimately, the aim is to

support firms such that they have the best chance of winning work in their chosen markets.

Main responsibilities

Advising on major international bids

  • As required, offer personal insights and critical review to help firms optimise their response strategy for specific major opportunities (in collaboration with team colleagues and other specialists)

  • Guide firms’ proposal project managers to relevant materials, propositions and people which will help them gain a competitive edge

  • Seek firms’ feedback to continually optimise the process around IBSF and GTIL support to major international opportunities

Driving pursuit best practice

  • Engage with firms to identify successful business development, key account management and client experience approaches to scale. Also track latest best practices in the external market

  • Develop and launch practical resources such as checklists, playbooks, intranet content and workshop formats which ‘package up’ go-to-market approaches in formats which practitioners can easily apply

  • Encourage firms to record and share aggregated post-proposal and post-engagement feedback themes from international clients

  • Identify digital tools and approaches to help enhance firms’ virtual business development, working with Manager, digital activation and Digital Marketing team

  • Provide input to thematic sales enablement materials, working with Manager, global sales enablement content

  • Promote and drive adoption of common go-to-market tools and frameworks across the network. Collaborate with other global teams to identify communities, channels and events where resources and insights can be shared more widely

  • Provide subject matter expertise to commercial learning programme design

Making cross-border collaboration even easier

  • Gain input from stakeholders across the network (including internationally active partners, International Business Centres, service lines and others) to address any barriers to collaborating around international business

  • Review end-to-end process, identify key policies and processes in place and work with appropriate GTIL teams e.g. legal, quality, service lines to update policies and improve processes

  • Identify and implement solutions/technologies to enable collaboration around opportunities with common cross-border targets and clients

  • Convene and support firms in sharing target lists and prospect/client profiles

  • Capture best practice around winning and managing international MSA/framework agreements

  • Help shape frictionless processes for cross-firm engagement around international proposals and key clients, providing expertise to Process manager

  • Work with communications and IT teams on roadmap to evolve people and capability directories on global intranet

  • Contribute to embedding cross-firm referral tracking approach, working with finance colleagues

  • Provide input to IT projects around common taxonomies for international client relationship data

Evolving our knowledge management

  • Bring new perspectives to streamline processes for capturing, creating, publishing and maintaining credentials and proof points (on our global intranet Connect, SharePoint and other potential platforms) in collaboration with team and member firm colleagues

  • Help optimise the ongoing role of our outsourced international pursuit and proposal support Hub team (based in India), focusing their outputs and projects on areas of greatest impact

  • Design new approaches to maximise member firm engagement with the credentials gathering process

  • Help shape an evolved approach to producing international client references, case studies and richer credentials

  • Work with team colleagues to make any new and enhanced processes operational

  • Develop information governance framework for credentials, collaborating with relevant global and member firm teams
