Maintenance Handy Person

Our Client, which we have a long standing and succussful relationship with, are offering an exciting opportunity to join their fantastic organisation. Please see below for more details:

Monday to Friday, 9.00 am - 5.00 pm (They are flexible if you would like to do 8 - 4 or 10 - 6)
Weekends may be required: Overtime is paid or time in lieu
Must have a clean UK Driving Licence as you will be required to look after multiple sites in NW London - I hope to have a better picture of the area and sites that needs to be covered by tomorrow.

Duties Required:

Provide a responsive repairs service for day to day repairs, dealing with small, general items of repair and maintenance in the interior and exterior of the building; e.g. putting up shelves, changing light bulbs, moving furniture, cleaning lamp shades, cleaning windows.
Carry out routine checks, repairs and maintenance of household equipment, and the exterior of the building
Ensure the maintenance service is delivered in response to the diverse needs of residents and customers
Respond to emergencies i.e. Burst pipes, fire alarms, making property secure, etc.
Assist the Maintenance Manager with managing the cyclical maintenance programme and inform of failures or control issues
Manage stock control including furniture and electrical items. Manage utility meter readings
Ensure that empty properties are made ready for letting within target times
Ensure that repairs and damage, which are the responsibility of the outgoing tenant, are identified and the Housing Officer informed. Liaise with Housing Officers regarding scheduling voids for redecoration
Carry out general maintenance including graffiti removal, building and site repairs, fencing, painting, floor and wall tiling, glazing including Perspex type material, low level rainwater goods repairs, cleaning footpaths, rubbish and recycling bins, etc.
Deal with blocked sewers and drains, including unblocking sinks
Display a friendly, flexible, helpful and courteous attitude to colleagues, tenants and the general public

Person Specification


A good standard of education commensurate to the knowledge and skills required to do the job

Knowledge and skills required

Knowledge of basic construction and property maintenance techniques
Knowledge of Health and Safety issues relating to property maintenance
Understanding of issues of date protection and client confidentiality
Excellent communication skills both verbal and in writing
Ability to communicate with people at all levels
Ability to carry out basic property repairs to a high standard
Basic IT and administration skills

Experience required

Experience of working in a handy person role with similar responsibility
Dealing with the public in a customer facing role
Organising and prioritising own workload
Keeping records and returns
