Borders General Hospital is a modern and well-equipped 284 bed DGH serving the rural Borders area in South East Scotland, approximately 36 miles from Edinburgh. After an absence of almost 50 years, the Borders Railway has now opened, with train services to central Edinburgh running every thirty minutes (journey time 50 minutes approx). Tweedbank Station is a few minutes walk from the Borders General Hospital. On opening the railway Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth said "The Borders railway brings so much promise for sharing and invigorating this most beautiful countryside as a place to work, live and enjoy”.

The Role
The post is most suitable for those who have completed Core Surgical Training or equivalent. Successful candidates will join a team of 6 Consultants, 1 Associate Specialist, 3 Specialty Trainees, 4 GPST and 2 FY2. Duties will involve the day to day care of Trauma & Orthopaedic patients, active participation in clinic and theatre sessions and close liaison with the Emergency Dept. A 1 in 6 duty rota will include evening and weekend work but no overnight work commitments.

Candidates must be fully registered with the General Medical Council with a licence to practice. You should demonstrate attainment of ST2 competencies (or equivalent) have appropriate postgraduate medical experience in a specialty training programme or equivalent in Orthopaedics and Trauma.
