We invite your application to this post which is within the acute children’s service based in Forth Valley Royal Hospital.
The Combined child health department in Forth Valley combines community and acute paediatrics. We currently have a team of 11 consultant paediatricians (general paediatrics, one of whom for community child health), 2 associate specialists, 4 specialty doctors in community child health and one in acute paediatrics, 4-7 specialty trainees, foundation year 2 and GP specialist trainees, and 2 advanced neonatal nurse practitioner (ANNP). The department provides comprehensive paediatric and neonatal care to a population of 300,000 people with 60,000 children under the age of 16 years and 3,200 deliveries per annum. There is a 25 bed combined medical and surgical Paediatric ward; a 20 bed Neonatal Unit (Level2) supporting a consultant led obstetric unit and an 8 bed clinical assessment and ambulatory care unit.

Forth Valley paediatric department participates in regional and national managed clinical networks allowing the development of specialist interests for all senior medical staff and ensuring children are cared for locally. The services are supported by a team of Community Children’s Nurses with general and specialist network links.

This appointment aims to support the delivery of our hospital-based children’s medical services.. Acute posts include a share of on call and out of hours working. All paediatric consultants are expected to have a minimum of Level 3 Child Protection training and participate in child protection examinations.
