Linux Systems Administrator required by market leading, government agency based in the heart of Somerset. The successful Linux Systems Administrator will work with the Technical Systems team and the Senior Linux System Administrator to implement elements of the defined strategic roadmap for Linux and related systems.

The purpose of this job is to ensure that system deployments, and associated infrastructure and environments (including development, test and production environments), conform to quality assurance, security, architectural and system-specific requirements.

Required Duties:
The successful Linux Systems Administrator will be required to undertake the following:
*System administration - day to day administration of production and other systems, including health and identification of technical debt as well as system build and automation
*System support - liaise with departments to implement infrastructure changes and support ongoing changes to environments. The post holder will also be expected to act as third-line support and respond to incidents reported by users of the system
*System maintenance - maintain the continuous deployment code base and system automated builds and ensure that build, deployment and testing of all system components is reproducible through automated processes
*System reporting - reporting of running costs for environments and ongoing improvements to reporting mechanisms
*System releases - administer the release process, including reporting on releases to the Product Owner and Programme Management#
*Schedule infrastructure maintenance - routine application of updates and patches to servers at times of low demand. This will usually be carried out outside of standard working hours

Required Background:
Solid experience of administering, building and configuring Linux servers.
*Experience of working in an agile team environment
*Good written and oral communication skills to produce reports and give presentations at team and divisional level, setting out information in a concise and logical manner
*Planning and organisational skills to effectively deliver requirements
Wide technical experience of wide variety of server and storage technologies at an architecture, design and technical expert level
*Good knowledge of IT security best practice
*Experience of providing quality / technical assurance within complex projects> Experience of continuous integration and continuous delivery within an agile development team
*Experience of administering network security including configuring firewalls, Kerberos and Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP)
*Experience of administering a Hadoop cluster
*Experience of administering containerised applications using Docker
*Experience with Spacewalk, Kickstart and PXE Boot
*Experience of Microsoft Hyper-V
*Experience of version control using Git
*Proficiency in the use of Ansible as an infrastructure automation tool
*Experience with the Jenkins Continuous Integration build server
