Life Development Underwriter - Protection

About the role

You’ll be joining the Life Proposition Team as an experienced Development Underwriter, in our Exeter office. Homeworking and or working from an alternative LV= office will also be considered for the right individual.

Using your advanced technical underwriting knowledge, you’ll primarily determine and develop our underwriting philosophy; including developing, maintaining and testing our underwriting rules engine. You’ll review our online customer journey, our question sets, underwriting and reassurance guidelines and customer outcomes; including medical evidence triggers. You’ll produce, monitor and analyse management information (MI), sharing key findings with stakeholders. You’ll perform cost benefit analysis for proposed improvements and undertake the implementation of any rule engine changes as a result.

You’ll be a vital technical lead for any projects which require underwriting support; attending project meetings, assessing impacts to our underwriting philosophy and underwriting rules engine, communicating with relevant stakeholders across the business and external 3rd parties such as reassurers and make suitable recommendations and changes as appropriate. You’ll lead throughout the whole life cycle of the project from requirements, implementation, testing, launch, training and post review.

Lastly, you’ll communicate and collaborate across pricing, product, marketing, sales, business intelligence and our operational service teams in order to share your knowledge, build on others technical capability, which may include delivering presentations or discussions on the LV= Underwriting Philosophy and to influence the right commercial and customer decisions to support our strategic objectives.

About you

You’ll have demonstrable experience in; development underwriting, a technical underwriting background within a full suite of Protection products (such as; Life Insurance, Critical Illness, Income Protection) and maintaining and developing an underwriting rules engine. You’ll have experience of data analytics using various MI tools and be an advanced user of Microsoft Excel. If you have a Diploma in Life & Disability Underwriting then even better!

You’re able to think strategically, balance commercial judgements, customer outcomes and make clear and effective risk management decisions. You also have previous process improvement, change, or business improvement experience and have been a subject matter expert on underwriting related projects previously.

You’re passionate about your subject, industry and market, therefore keep abreast of key competitors and any new and emerging techniques, tools and technologies which challenge and improve the way we do things. You also take immense pride in coaching, supporting and developing the technical knowledge of others, working collaboratively within a team and sharing your insights, recommendations and knowledge with your peers.
