About the role:
They have an opportunity for a Cataloguer to join in Rushden on a permanent basis.
You’ll be supporting the Archive Manager and Senior Archive Assistant in delivering a forward-looking and efficient service, making sure the Archive fully supports the functions of our client, third party users, and external stakeholders.
With a history that stretches back to the mid-19th century, our client has been central to the careers of many of the world’s best-known authors. Their UK archives are a physical representation of the important place that the company has in the UK’s cultural heritage. They’ve even made the news as the ‘million book Archive’.
You’ll be responsible for cataloguing new incoming stock according to the Dewey Decimal Classification system. You’ll be able to work with the small Archive team, ensuring that the stock is catalogued, shelved, stored, circulated and weeded as required.
Ideally you will have experience working in a library, archive or information service, although this is not essential as training will be given; however, you should have a good eye for detail, the ability to undertake routine tasks, and proven customer service and IT skills.
They’re looking for someone who enjoys being proactive and flexible. Good interpersonal skills are important in order to communicate and work effectively with a wide range of people at different levels of the business.
