Legal Business Partner

Role purpose

The role holder will be a Business Partner working closely with a designated Directorate to anticipate their need for legal support and to understand their priorities.

Knowledge, skills & experience

  • Expertise, including recent significant practical experience, in one or more of planning, highways, environmental and property law Application and Interview
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of the wider statutory framework underpinning local government decision making and an awareness and some understanding of the subject matters covered by each of the legal specialist teams Interview
  • Significant experience of being the lead advisor on corporately significant and politically sensitive projects Application and Interview
  • Substantial experience of taking personal ownership of difficult and controversial corporate issues and seeing them through to a successful conclusion Interview
  • Ability to analyse and interpret management information and financial data Application
  • Experience of mentoring colleagues successfully and delegating and prioritising work effectively Application and Interview

Other requirements

  • Degree level or equivalent qualification and relevant professional qualification and/or membership of a relevant professional body (Solicitor or Barrister or Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives) with significant post qualification experience, or equivalence through very significant legal experience
  • Ability and willingness to work flexibly and to work additional hours as required
  • The normal duties of the role may involve travel on a regular or occasional basis. It is a condition of employment that the role holder can exercise satisfactory travel mobility in order to fulfil the obligations of the role. For those journeys where an alternative form of transport is unavailable or impracticable the role holder will be required to provide a suitable vehicle
