Legal and Contracts Advisor

Due to continued growth and expansion our client now has a requirement for a Legal and Contract Advisor.

Working with the Board of Directors, senior management & department heads to provide legal advice and identify business opportunities, to evaluate contracts on offer and participate with contract negotiations and submissions, ensuring the timely delivery of said contracts at the appropriate standard and within budget.

Key Tasks

Legal

  • Drafting and reviewing contracts, and undertaking contract negotiations with clients, partners/affiliates, suppliers, and other parties
  • Maintaining standard contracts and other documentation, including privacy policies
  • Advising and supporting the business on a broad range of general commercial matters, including data protection and privacy, marketing/advertising law, and intellectual property
  • Supporting the accounts team with debt collection matters
  • Dealing with other minor disputes from time to time
  • Supporting the company with corporate work
  • Assisting the business with regulatory and compliance matters, including reviewing and drafting policies
  • Preparing and delivering staff training on legal topics, including contract management
  • Identifying and managing legal risks within the business
  • Managing legal and other projects, when required
  • Managing external legal counsel from time to time
  • Undertaking legal research (e.g. legal issues in other jurisdictions)

Contracts

  • To evaluate contracts on offer with a view to business development
  • Identify Business opportunities and associated risks
  • Request Tender bid documentation
  • Read and understand Contracts
  • Compile a comprehensive report for presentation to the Board to enable them to reach a decision / sanction the tender
  • Identify the form and content of the response required
  • Work with department heads to formulate the response ensuring that both the form and the required content of the response is satisfied
  • Attend Contract meetings with both internal and external parties
  • Ensure that necessary staff are sufficiently briefed to ensure a good contract response
  • Work with appropriate staff to achieve a timely review during the life-cycle of the bid to ensure that the deliverables reach the desired standard
  • Ensure that signed contracts are communicated to all relevant parties to provide contract visibility and awareness, interpretation to support implementation and the roles and responsibilities are defined, clarified, understood and agreed
  • Monitor the requirements of the contract and the performance of the company to ensure that the requirements are met
  • Act as the company Liaison Officer to Contract awarding organisations
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure all deliverables are met within the necessary timescales / achieving the necessary quality
  • Arrange and attend meetings / prepare & deliver presentations to relevant stake-holders and interested parties
  • To ensure the ongoing delivery of all current contracts
  • To monitor and respond to CCNs in a timely fashion after negotiation with relevant department heads
  • Report to the Board at regular agreed intervals concerning contract delivery
  • Identify and investigate opportunities within contracts to add value and increase income
  • Support Product Management/Marketing to ensure that products and services are offered on appropriate and competitive terms and conditions
  • Maintain contractual records, evidence and documentation such as receipt and control of all contract correspondence
Knowledge and Skills
  • Qualified solicitor in England and Wales
  • Broad legal experience and knowledge
  • A detailed knowledge of Contract Law including drafting and negotiating experience with a proven track record of successful contract management
  • Excellent organisation, communication and writing styles with an eye for detail
  • Excellent client facing and negotiating skills
  • The ability to have a strong impact and to aid and influence key decisions
