Learning Assistant - Paradykes Primary School
Currently, Midlothian has 6 secondary schools, 32 primary schools (19 of which have nurseries) and 2 stand alone nursery schools. Our special school, Saltersgate, provides support for children with a range of physical, social, emotional, behavioural and learning difficulties. The schools range in size from our smallest primary school with around 20 children to our largest secondary with over 1200 pupils. We have a diverse range of school catchments, from rural to urban settings. We are fortunate to have a growing number of new build schools, with 15 of our primary schools and 1 secondary having been built within the last 10 years and several new builds planned.
Paradykes Primary School and Family Learning Centre is a non-denominational primary school serving the Loanhead and Straiton communities. We firmly believe that every child matters and we focus on this when planning improvements throughout the school. There is an active and very supportive parental body that support future improvements to life at Paradykes!
Our development priorities for this forthcoming session include becoming a Nurturing/Attachment Aware School. Our staff team are fully involved in school development work and self evaluation and play a key role, along with our pupils and parents/carers, in developing the school. Come and join us!
Evidence of basic literacy and numeracy at Standard Grade General level or SVQ2 in Early Years Care and Education, or National Certificate unit in Childcare & Education, or equivalent competency, to enable the jobholder to communicate effectively with staff and pupils, and provide sensitive support.
The jobholder must be familiar with child development and able to respond to the needs of individual pupils. Jobholders should have previous experience of working in this field of work.
To be fully competent in the role jobholders will be required to undertake addition training courses eg first aid, calm techniques etc.
If the post is within a Nursery Environment then the Jobholder must be registered with or obtain membership with the SSSC within 6 months of appointment. In order to register you must currently hold the relevant qualifications or be willing to work towards attaining these qualifications within the first year of registration. Based on you working 20 hours over 39 weeks per year the minimum actual salary for this position is £9,211.24 per annum.
