We are working with a leading provider of Travel Health services in the UK who have been established for over 25 years, assisting thousands of people to ensure they leave prepared health-wise for their Holiday. They are recruiting for an experienced Lead Travel Health nurse to join them in their clinic in Central London on a permanent full time Basis.

Lead Travel Health Nurse Nurse Job Role:

You will be responsible for the overall management of the travel clinic . You will complete daily comprehensive travel health consultations administering risk assessments, health advice, vaccinations, malaria prophylaxis, medical kits and other travel related medicines within the framework of the clinics Patient Group Directions. You will maintain accurate client records on the clinics CMR record system and manage bookings. The role requires a good communicator - you will be the link between your clinic team and the clinical operations manager. As Lead Nurse, you will manage the day-to-day running of your clinic and will be expected to continually deliver a high standard of customer service to the clinics clients while maintaining safe clinical services.

You’ll be required to comply with NMC Code of Professional Conduct and to read, understand and follow guidelines and standards of practice as set out in the clinics policies. Working towards expected levels of practice as per the RCN Travel Health competencies and development framework 2018 and used within context of meeting revalidation requirements.

Clinical Duties:

  • Provide travel health risk assessments and advice to clients in the travel clinic.
  • Administration of vaccines, antimalarial tablets, medical kits and medicines under a signed Delegation of Authority according to the Patient Group Directives for the Travel Clinics.
  • Reporting of any adverse effects of vaccines to the Lead Nurse / Medical Operations manager
  • Advising 'high risk’ clients appropriately liaising with the clinics Doctor/Head Pharmacist when required.
  • Disseminating information pertaining to changes in vaccine regimes/ vaccines being used or any other medical matters to Lead Nurse / Clinical Nurse Trainer / Medical Operations Manager.
  • Undertake Covid Testing for Travellers and Businesses in a Covid Secure Environment
  • Interpreting test results and providing clients with Certificates for travel or work purposes.
  • Maintain client confidentiality at all times.
  • Work within the clinics guidelines and policies to ensure smooth running of the clinic.
  • Undertake an internal Structured Training Programme of Travel Health training with Clinical Nurse Trainer.
  • Attendance of professional study days.

Clinic Management Duties:

  • To support all nursing staff including locum nurses who may work periodically.
  • To ensure that all nurses working within the clinic setting are complying with the PGDs and are competent to work.
  • Report any concerns to the Lead Nurse/Clinical Operations Manager.
  • Responsible for reporting of sickness to the Clinical Operations Manager.
  • To develop and liaise with the Store Manager/Staff to ensure the smooth running of the clinic, maximizing standards of service to the clinics Clients.
  • Mentor and support new nurses through the initial training logs as required.
  • To carry out regular 'Consultation assessment tools’ to support practice development of nursing staff.
  • Manage 'Nurse Databases’, ensuring nursing team maintain mandatory training as required including in house training such as ID rabies and group anaphylaxis BLS scenario. To manage documentation of training ready for CQC inspection.
  • Manage reporting and documentation of incidents including safeguarding and complaints. Report to senior clinical team members.
  • Ensure clinical governance documents are managed and maintained as required by the clinic and for CQC presentation when required.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Registered Nurse/NMC PIN
  • Acute Hospital Background (UK)
  • An interest in Travel Health medicine (Essential)
  • Foundation/ Diploma in Travel Medicine (Desirable)
  • Ability to manage and prioritise workload for the clinic team, always putting the client first.
  • Effective communicator.
