Sussex Recruitment has an opportunity for a Lead/Senior Engineer for their client based in Eastbourne. This is a supervisory position to support the Workshop Supervisor and deputise in his absence. Although predominantly engineering in this varied role you will be required to cover precision manual machining in addition to supporting stores, assembly, welding, testing and packing. This is an excellent opportunity if you enjoy variation in your work.


Support the fitting shopin the Mounting and Alignment of motorised drive units. Work with Engineering to improve design, cost and assembly times.

Support the machine fitting shop with precision manual machining of small parts when required. This may include modifications to drawing of special clearance rotors, spacers and some bespoke tooling.

Deputise for the Workshop Supervisor. Oversee the daily production facility, ensuring clear direction of tasks and responsibilities. Support the team for the efficient running of the operation.

Identify and resolve production issues which will include reviewing build reports and checking parts to drawing. Communicate breakages, delays and technical issues to the relevant departments.

Develop skill in assembly of pump range to supportproduction as required

Provide cover and support picking parts and issuing spares. General stores duties to include
goods received, deliveries, identification and storage.

Assist in the test area to support and provide cover.

Occasionally helping the loading and unloading of our deliveries. Provide stand in cover and support for packing of pumps and Spares.

Assist the Workshop Supervisor to identify and deliver training needs within operations.

Conform to Quality & Environmental System and Health & Safety Standards, ensuring safe working principles are applied


  • Strong Engineering background in precision manual machining, ie turning on a lathe
  • Welding experience (useful but not essential)
  • Forklift (desirable but not essential)
  • Strong communication and decision-making skills, ability to supervise and multi task
  • Ability to negotiate
  • Results Driven, effective team player/leader
  • IT Skills - Microsoft Office and JDE
