Due to our continued growth we are now recruiting for a Lead Engineer - Connected Cars to be based at our customer’s site in Woking.

Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast growing function within Tata Technologies Limited that is assembled to work on exciting projects globally for multiple customers. It comprises highly specialized engineers across Automotive, Aerospace and Industrial Heavy Machinery.

The Role:

You will be responsible for development, test and delivery of state-of-the-art connectivity features for future road cars.

The role requires a highly motivated and hands-on team player with an exceptional attention to detail. The role will suit an Engineer who has the ability to quickly develop skills in new areas and liaise with other engineers within a multidisciplinary team.

Area of Responsibility

  • Define and improve in detail the connected car specifications so that this ecosystem is compliant with the applicable legislations and safety requirements, and providing the highest standards of data security and privacy.
  • Deliver programme gateway work products for connected cars, covering feature content, risks, timing and costs.
  • Coordinate and control the activities executed by the suppliers with a special focus on cyber security, cost control and end-user experience.
  • Define the user acceptance test (UAT) requirements and (road) test the customer experiences associated with connected technologies.
  • Contribute the connected car continuous improvements (CIP) for business development.

Knowledge / Experience

  • Connected car E/E architectures relevant to OEM services
  • Understanding of V2V/V2I communication, eCall and cybersecurity.
  • (Software) projects for automotive, mobile or IT applications.
  • Global service infrastructures and suppliers.
  • Automotive standards and best practice is desirable.
  • Supplier management is desirable.
  • Understanding of IT infrastructures is desirable.
  • Knowledge of CAN and CAN based tools.
  • Experience and understanding of vehicle level system integration in terms of hardware and software
  • Experience of systems developing MI-based systems.
  • Experience in a systems engineering, or electronics role
  • Experience of the Systems Development Lifecycle (V Model); writing system requirements, defining test cases and writing test procedures.
  • Ability to produce formal documentation to a professional standard.

  • Organised, systematic and understand the process of fault finding.
  • Ability to effectively manage time
  • Passion for the automotive industry, technology and/or audio would be advantageous but not essential.
  • Technical project management with proven evidence of decision making and
  • Good commercial awareness to maintain a focus on cost, profit, quality and risk.
  • A strong track record of delivering designs to timing, weight and cost targets.
  • Supplier management, comfortable with understanding and implementing DFM requirements within the project scope.
  • Background in low volume, high performance sports or racing cars preferred.
  • Ability to produce formal documentation to a professional standard.
  • Honours degree in a relevant Engineering subject such as Electronics, Software, or Physics.
