Lead Electrical Technician

Posted 28 July by Simpsons Malt Ltd Ended

Simpsons Malt are the UK’s leading, independent malting Company, with 150+ years of successful supply to brewers and distillers with a customer range from the smallest craft & micro brewers to multi-nationals in the UK and around the world.

Our Tweed Valley Maltings site and Head Office in Berwick upon Tweed in the Border country between Edinburgh and Newcastle has and continues to receive significant investment. One of the largest malted barley production facilities in Europe its focus is the production of a quality product.

If you are wishing to move upwards in to a supervisory/management position then this is the next step for you. Supporting a 7X24 production operation you will potentially undertake an M-F day shift role as a coach, trainer and guide to the shift based maintenance technicians and a support to an Engineering Manager in delivering scheduled workload.

While you may well get hands-on in assisting/covering those Technicians when they hit difficulties, you also may manage small improvement projects yourself.

We operate a skill based pay system that seeks to ensure that our Technicians are rewarded for demonstrating both electrical and mechanical skills. You will ideally be no stranger to conveyors, elevators, augers, gear boxes, motors and other material handling equipment, but more importantly while we have a Lead Technician to provide higher level mechanical guidance, we have this gap for an electrical/controls specialist owing to a promotion to a management position.

Probably apprentice trained, you will probably be able to demonstrate experience working shifts in a complex production operation, ideally on a multi-skilled basis, but certainly with a very strong electrical/controls basis and plc experience. Logical fault finding/problem solving will be a strength.

Communication skills will be a big positive for the successful candidate, whether it is to be used to liaise with your production customer or guide/coach your colleagues in the wider engineering team along with safety consciousness and continuous improvement mentality.

The successful candidate will receive:

-A very competitive salary range in excess of £35k according to skills.

-Company Bonus

-Excellent benefits inc generous pension and life insurance

-31-34 days holiday inc BH's
