Lead Diagnostic Radiographer MRI

Position Summary
The primary purpose of the role is:

* To lead and develop the new MRI service at the Windsor treatment centre so that all operational objectives and standards are achieved.
* To lead the clinical and non-clinical team in all aspects of the MRI process thus supporting all patients receiving MRI in the centre.

Position Reports
The Lead Radiographer reports directly to the Centre Leader and the Head of Diagnostics.
There are direct reports to the position of Lead Radiographer.

Accountabilities/Key Responsibilities
* Liaise closely with the multi-disciplinary team.
* Follow all duties as a health and care professions council (HCPC) registrant (standards of conduct, performance and ethics).
* Follow all health and care professions council (HCPC) standards of proficiency.
* Provide leadership and effective performance management for all MRI /cross sectional staff.
* Create the right environment for all diagnostic and radiotherapy staff to work effectively together as a team.
* Ensure that the MRI section of the unit has the staff and resources it needs to operate effectively and safely.
* Ensure that all members of the cross sectional team have had the appropriate training and have the necessary skills to do their jobs.
* Ensure that all staff follow clinical protocols, policies and procedures at all times and operate in full compliance.
* Ensure that all staff maintain safe and effective working practices, including the operation of equipment and systems in use in the centre.
* Ensure that all patients experience the highest levels of service, in line with the agreed expectations for scanning within centres.
* Ensure that the unit maintains accurate and complete records of patient treatments, in line with the agreed processes within organisation.
* Ensure that clinical audit, radiation protection and quality assurance requirements are met.
* Ensure that compliments are recorded alongside any incidents or complaints that are also thoroughly and properly investigated, and that the necessary safeguards are taken to prevent recurrence.
* Build and maintain effective working relationships with all key stakeholders including patients and their carers, clinicians and their colleagues, investors and funders, partnership organisations, cancer charities, suppliers.
* Support the ongoing improvement and continuous development of the care and services provided and to promote the ongoing success of the company.
* Have close liaison with other centre leaders/ lead radiographers at clinical forums to contribute to the growth and progress of MRI/cross sectional imaging. Lead by example taking an active clinical role in all areas of the patient pathway.
* To adhere to all HCPC standards.
* Pro-actively maintain own continuing professional development (CPD) in accordance with organisation and HCPC professional standards.
* Work and coordinate out of hours working in order to ensure that breakdowns or crises are resolved with minimum impact to service and treatments.

Key Working Relationships
The Lead Radiographer will need to develop strong relationships with the following internal parties:

* Radiographers (both therapy and diagnostic)
* Dosimetrists
* Specialist Service Lead

In addition the Lead Radiographer will need to develop strong external relationships with various individuals/agencies/key stakeholders.
Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Technical Skills & Expertise

* Able to demonstrate significant post qualification experience
* Experience in all aspects of MRI scanning to a very high level of competence (Cardiac, Prostate, MSK, Breast etc)
* Evidence of service set up /development
* Evidence of effective management of staff and co-operative working
* Evidence of empathetic and a holistic approach to patient care
* Experience in private health sector
* Good experience with resolving complaints satisfactorily
* Sound understanding of governance
* Experience of proactively evolving MRI techniques
* A wide range of clinical skills
* Evidence of effective leadership
* Evidence of effective organisational, interpersonal and communication skills
* Strong relationship building skills
* Able to make independent judgments/decisions, ability to solve problems
* Able to work flexibly to achieve company business objectives
* Able to act as a trainer and mentor for staff being managed


* DCR (DR) or BSc (Hons) in Diagnostic Radiography
* Working towards or having MSc would be favourable
* HCPC registration
* Evidence of continuing professional development
