Lead Consultant Ophthalmologist

Hampshire

40 hours per week

Salary up to £110,000 (negotiable)

One of the industry leading private healthcare providors is actively looking for a highly experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist to lead, develop and support the growth of the Ophthalmology service as a centre of excellence in ophthalmology. Responsible To:

Hospital Director

Key Responsibilities:

- As the Lead Ophthalmology clinician you will be responsible for the development of the service, working within national guidelines and providing local service contractual requirements and growth of required service. The services will be provided on multiple sites and the postholder will support the development of the clinical team to provide these services.

- The post holder will be required to perform a range of ophthalmology procedures on patients referred to the treatment centre and provide supervision of the provision of adult community ophthalmology services delivered by allied healthcare professionals, working in accordance with our clients protocols and working practices.

- The post holder will be required to demonstrate a high level of operative skill in the following areas:

- High Volume Phacoemulsification under topical anaesthesia (Essential)

-Medical Retina including AMD (Essential)

-Glaucoma services (Essential)

-Yag Laser treatments

-Duties will include preoperative, intra operative and postoperative activities as well as time allocated for clinical supporting work.

-The post holder will be required to have completed a substantial number of procedures identified above independently. Applicants will be expected to have an excellent clinical quality record and be able to demonstrate the ability to perform efficiently in theatre.

Skills & Experience

-Wide training and experience in general ophthalmology

-Able to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems within ophthalmology

-Able to take full and independent responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision

-Experience of high volume cataract surgery under topical anaesthesia

-Experience in leading a team and developing services

-Evidence of clinical outcomes

-Understanding of audit and Clinical Governance

Qualifications

-UK registerable Medical Degree.

-MRCOphth/FRCOphth/FRCS

-Past record of academic achievement

-Full and Specialist GMC Registration in relevant specialty.
