About the Role:

Our client, a renowned global consultancy, is seeking an experienced Automation Framework Architect and Manager to lead and manage a team of Automation Engineers and Framework Developers. You will be responsible for delivering complex automation projects for multiple clients across the UK. This is a senior technical role requiring strong consulting experience, leadership skills, and the ability to work closely with clients to design and implement the best automation framework solutions for enterprise-level development projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and Manage: Oversee a team of Automation Engineers and Framework Developers, ensuring successful delivery of automation projects.
  • Automation Framework Development: Design, build, and maintain feature-rich automation frameworks from scratch, using object-oriented and scripted languages such as Java, Python, C#, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
  • Consulting Expertise: Act as a trusted consultant, working with clients to create tailored automation strategies that meet their needs. You will be involved in Statements of Work (SOW), RFPs, and client pitches.
  • Client Interaction: Serve as a key point of contact for clients, ensuring strong communication with both technical and C-suite stakeholders to align automation frameworks with business goals.
  • Code and Demonstrate: Lead by example in framework development, showcasing your ability to code and design complex automation frameworks.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that the automation framework provides high-quality test coverage, assuring the correct functionality of the software.
  • Collaborative Work: Work within Agile environments, contributing to the design and execution of automated tests in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Key Requirements:
  • Framework Expertise: Proven experience in building advanced and feature-rich test automation frameworks from scratch, using object-oriented and scripted languages such as JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, C#, or Python.
  • OOP Knowledge: Strong understanding and application of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles, SOLID principles, Dependency Injection, and Design Patterns.
  • Agile Experience: Extensive experience working in Agile environments, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and designing automated tests for user stories based on defined acceptance criteria.
  • Test Assurance: Expertise in assuring test quality and coverage, ensuring automated tests provide adequate confidence in software functionality.
  • API/Microservices Testing: Deep knowledge of API and microservices testing, with a focus on integration with back-end services and ensuring comprehensive test coverage for microservices architectures.
  • UI Testing: Experience with web UI testing across multiple browsers, leveraging frameworks like WebdriverIO, Cypress, and Playwright.
  • Mobile Automation: Experience with mobile automation and testing is a plus.
  • Cloud & Web Applications: Experience working across different application domains, including Cloud and Web Applications.
  • CI/CD Understanding: Familiarity with CI/CD processes and integrating automated tests into pipelines. Knowledge of GitHub Actions, GitLab pipelines, Azure DevOps, or Jenkins is a plus.
  • Contract Testing (PACT): Experience or knowledge in Contract Testing frameworks (preferably PACT) would be beneficial.
  • Consultancy Experience: Experience working in a consultancy role, interacting directly with clients to define and deliver automation strategies, is highly desirable.
