Our client, based in Odiham, is looking for a Laboratory Technician who will be responsible to the Operations Manager or nominee.
Normal working time arrangement: Initially the 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day, will be worked as a day shift, however the hours will be arranged to cover Saturday working and/or different shifts, on a rota basis, working up to 10:00 pm (weekdays only) - subject to operational requirements.
Other alternatively working time arrangements: Fixed-permanent shifts are also required, working 5:00 am to 1:30 pm, or 3:30 pm to 00:00 am (midnight).
Complying with all Company rules, policies, procedures, methods and codes of practice.
Wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment provided.
Maintaining quality control checks and good housekeeping practices in each area that they work.
Ensuring before use, laboratory equipment is calibrated and fit for purpose.
Preparation and testing samples of oil, lubricants, fuel etc. to enable results to be reviewed,
checked and reported to the client in line with requirements in the Quality Control Manual.
Also to assist with general laboratory housekeeping duties. This shall include maintaining the
laboratory and associated areas tidy, efficient, and well ordered. Training and instruction
required to carry out these functions will be provided.
To become part of a team and carry out the various duties as directed. Some of the duties
listed below involve manual lifting and the use of a respirator:
Preparation of solvent and control & calibration samples.
Preparation of test samples.
Maintain quality control checks.
Interpreting test results.
Carry 25 litre full containers to and from the laboratory as required.
Move samples from the laboratory to the oil store area and dispose as required.
Transfer used samples to the laboratory racks.
Maintaining good laboratory housekeeping practices in the laboratory, keeping
workstations, shelves, cupboards and drawers clean, tidy and free from oil spills and
Keep the floor clean, swept and washed as required.
Clean/wash laboratory beakers/glassware. Stack and empty the dish washer with Lab
Prepare cuvettes for the MDX.
Disposal of used oil samples.
Transfer waste chemicals between various containers using pump equipment provided.
Keep the waste disposal, chemical and oil store areas in good order.
Take delivery of packages. Assist with the distribution of deliveries to the correct location.
Preparing packaging waste for recycling.
Assist with records storage, e.g. archive boxes in racks.
Assist with stock taking.
When approved, assist with Training of staff.

An interest in Chemistry is advantageous.
Careful and methodical worker.
Abe to work to deadlines.
Neat hand writing and a good standard of Maths and English (written and
PC literate, and have some experience in the use of Microsoft Office.
Able to communicate with all levels of staff.
Flexible attitude towards the type of work undertaken.
Familiar with and committed to quality assurance.
Own transport required due to location.
