Prospero Teaching are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Teaching Assistant with Level 2 British Sign Language to support pupils within Gateshead. The role is to start from September 2024.

The role will involve working with Deaf/hearing impaired children across various schools working within a very supportive team of professionals, so the successful candidate will need to be a resilient practitioner and have excellent relationship-building skills.

The role is full-time and for the full 2024/2025 Academic Year, with the possibility of becoming permanent for the right person.The hours of work for the role will be 08.30-16.30.

The role will involve supporting the pupils with their learning and communicating effectively with Class Teachers to ensure appropriate strategies are used that are suited to the individual needs and learning styles of the pupils to allow them to engage with their learning and make excellent progress.

This role will involve:

  • Supporting Deaf/ hearing impaired students across a variety of schools in Gateshead
  • Supporting pupils with challenging behaviour and SEND on both a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
  • Managing challenging behaviour in a positive, proactive and consistent manner.
  • Building positive relationships with Class Teachers to support pupils and discuss/implement strategies and learning activities to promote pupil progress.
  • Preparing resources for lessons.
  • Supervising pupils at break times and lunch times as required.
  • Having a "hands on" approach to supporting the pupils in their learning, with a willingness to interact, engage and form a positive rapport with pupils.

This role requires

  • Hold the right to work in the UK
  • Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS Certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
  • Provide two professional child- related references
  • Clean Full UK Driving licence
  • An ability to build positive relationships and a rapport with pupils and staff.
  • A resilient, proactive, and positive nature.
  • High levels of enthusiasm, energy and positivity when working with pupils.
  • A genuine passion for helping young people to fulfil their potential and flourish in education.
  • An enthusiastic approach and a willingness to engage with and form positive relationships with pupils.
