The role is to teach small groups of children with emotional and behavioural difficulties. You will need to have experience of working in a special school or similar environment and above all an understanding of how to approach and work with primary aged children who can display very challenging, and sometimes aggressive behaviour.
The ideal teacher will be emotionally very resilient as they will come up against new challenges daily and need to understand that building relationships with the children will be a slow and at times frustrating process. You will need to be capable of implementing physical interventions where necessary and have the insight and knowledge to use de-escalation techniques when appropriate. The ideal candidate will be well organised and have a systematic approach to planning as often plans will need to be re thought through if they are not working for a particular child.
Above all a calm, patient and enthusiastic teacher will be ideal in this role, have QTS and a strong knowledge and experience of teaching children with challenging behaviour.
