Kitchen Porter

Our client based in Oxford are currently recruiting for a Kitchen Porter to join their team in a permanent position for Monday 16th April.

Main Purpose:

The Porting Team are required to help keep the Kitchen running smoothly by making sure all areas are clean, tidy, safe and providing an hygienic environment for the chefs to work in. You will have specific responsibility for the Plate Wash and Pot Wash areas and the cleaning of all major kitchen equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Comply with all current Health & Safety and Food Safety regulations and any additional requirements laid down by the client
  • Prioritize tasks in a timely fashion and follow instructions correctly according to procedure
  • Provide assistance to the Catering Manager or department in any area that is suited to your experience or skill set
  • Comply in the implantation of all COSHH and HACCP regulations and ensure that equipment cleaning schedules are signed off daily
  • All kitchen equipment that you have responsibility for must be properly maintained both in terms of hygiene and cleanliness
  • To assist with Boarders Supper at the end of each term, this will be in addition to your normal working pattern
  • To attend staff meetings and training as requested
  • You may also be asked to undertake tasks in other areas of the kitchen, which may not be part of your job description; it is the reasonable expectation that you would carry out such tasks
  • To assist with functions should these fall within your normal working hours, any additional hours, if agreeable, will attract overtime
  • Washing pots, pans, trays and utensils by both hand and use of industrial utensil washer  Ensuring that all kitchen equipment is properly stored after use
  • Assisting in the plate wash service at meal times to include decant, stack, feed and take-off items of crockery, cutlery and trays and to put back into service after use
  • Ensuring that all glasses and function cutlery are correctly put through the glass dishwasher and stored after use
  • Responsible for filling and maintaining the kitchens various water softeners with salt tablets
  • Washing and disinfecting kitchen appliances, work surfaces and walls
  • Maintaining the kitchen floors after each service by following a comprehensive sweeping and mopping programme
  • Removing and recycling waste from the kitchen
  • Reporting any faulty kitchen equipment to the management team

Requirements:

  1. Food Safety Qualification
  2. Health & Safety Qualification
  3. Good spoken, written and listening English skills
  4. To have high standards and attention to detail in relation to the cleaning and organisation of the Kitchen
  5. Possess good physical health, as you will be on your feet throughout your shift and expected to lift heavy loads
  6. Possessing a high standard of personal hygiene and maintaining a good level of personal presentation

Pay and Working Hours:

  • Salary: £15,910 per annum
  • Hours: 40 hours per week (including some weekends)
  • Holiday entitlement: 5.6 weeks paid to be taken during school holiday and as directed by the Catering Manager
