Key Account Manager - Nationwide

Main Purpose

To primarily account manage the existing Key Account portfolio in order to support and meet customer’s needs on an ongoing basis, while also driving new business sales revenue into these existing accounts through various routes in order to deliver individual and team sales targets.

Key Tasks

  • Achievement of annual new business turnover and margin target from the portfolio of Strategic accounts

  • Present and gain agreement from all the customers within the portfolio that ensures the customer sees this approach as added value from their current relationship with PHS, that it supports both customer and PHS commercial requirements and supports the customer with continuous improvement and innovation

  • Work with executive and support team to implement a clear understanding of the customer’s organisations and build strong working partnership across all areas of the business

  • Work with the team to ensure that the customer experiences the best and most appropriate level of support and service and that ultimately to the customer reflects a single joined up team approach

  • Work with the Tenders team to produce final bids and documents to the customers

  • Generate timely management reports as required that will include pipelines, current portfolio revenue, identifying risks and opportunities with action plan to support

  • Ensure clarity with all stakeholders, with a proactive approach to service management

  • Work proactively with your portfolio, with a planned schedule of visits, using reports and information to keep the customer up to date, ensuring that you get the most from your visits and calls

Knowledge and Experience

  • A proven service or sales professional operating at key and high value account level. A growth track record in a B2B sales/service environment (service or consumables), with a strong level of commercial acumen, gained from account management or sales background

  • Strong knowledge of PHS’s marketplaces and competitors, or experience of similar markets

  • Highly developed selling skills with excellent communication skills both F2F and written, with the interpersonal skills to influence other parts of the business

  • IT literate, with an emphasis on using technology to be effective and productive

  • Good strategic planning and day to day organising skills, high in initiative and problem solving skills

  • High levels of energy, commitment and tenacity with a strong understanding of the sales/service process and large accounts processes and buying behaviours

  • Ability to work on own, planning diary and working autonomously within your defined role

  • Full clean Driving License is required for this role


  • Reporting to the Key Account Director with some levels of interactions with other PHS MD’s/section heads, finance, IT and other supporting areas

  • Mostly customer facing, with regular daily meetings and calls

KPI’s and Performance

  • Growth of portfolio measured against a defined value

  • Growth of pool accounts, measured by a defined value

  • Planned called rates as agreed

Additional Information

  • The role will require regular/daily travelling within the UK (occasional overnight stays)

  • Advanced DBS (CRB) will be checked on offer of employment due to areas visited
