My client is a dedicated lighting consultancy, specialising in highway and architectural lighting design. Our client base includes; County and District Councils, HA agents, Civil Engineering practices, and Electrical contractors.

Recent projects include; PFI projects, urban regeneration, highway lighting, environmental schemes, commercial lighting and column replacement programmes.

In a nutshell, the Lighting Designers role will be;

  • Understanding the project brief
  • Interpretation of existing drawings
  • Consult relevant lighting standards or specifications
  • Using the project brief, producing an exterior lighting design using specialist software
  • Production of drawings, risk assessments and lighting calculations
  • Occasional site visits
  • Communication with the client and Project Manager
  • Involvement in large projects
  • Opportunity to learn 3D lighting software and attend specialist training courses


Ideal candidates will be;

  • Enthusiastic & self-motivated
  • Able to demonstrate a working knowledge of AutoCAD or similar 2D drawing packages.
  • Working knowledge of MS office
  • Have good time management skills and ability to work to deadlines.
  • A Full UK Drivers Licence will be required for this role

Nice to have;

  • To be educated to a degree or HND level in a relevant subject
  • Working towards a professional accreditation such as EngTech AMILP (eventually leading to MILP & IEng status), supported by a competency portfolio.
