Java Engineering Manager

up to £700/day
Our client are an award winning internet company operating in the e-commerce industry around 250 people in size. They offer a an informal, friendly working environment, flexible working arrangements and some interesting problems to solve. They're investing heavily in Technology throughout 2018/19, building new components to help with ambitious plans. A key area of improvements is it implement a new product model and to refine end to end customer experiences. With this in mind they're focussing on an event sourcing and CQRS architecture implemented through microservices.
They are looking for an Engineering Lead who would have oversight of a team around 30-40 in size. Ideally you’ll still be relatively hands on, could still dabble in Java8 in when needed, and work with cross-functional Java teams. You’d add value to and lead the entire software development lifecycle including their DevOps and deployments work. They are developing containerised, microservices using Docker and Mesos running on AWS. The way the team approach coding also really stands out, they follow continuous delivery, deploy regularly, sometimes up to 4-5 times a day. The team also advocate the use of TDD, they care about writing clean, maintainable code.

You’ll ideally need experience in the following areas
- Hands on background with Java8, Spring Boot, micro-services and AWS
- Building out and leading Java based Engineering teams
- Planing and executing a strategy for technical architecture and technology adoption
- Defining and improving engineering best practices (CI, CD, TDD etc)
- A clear communication style (spoken and typed) combined with strong organisational skills
- Defining a positive, ego-less and collaborative working culture
