This role will give you the opportunity to learn Scala and Spark, to no longer be invested in being purely a Java Developer. With the support of a wider team and taking on a number of self-learning steps to become a Data Engineer understanding how Amazon clusters work and building in order to automate.

You will work day to day translating commonly done manual problems that are stored in a Python Zeppelin notebook and think about how to automate the common recurrence using your gained talents in Scala and Spark.

In order to make this transition we expect the Java Developer to bring the following skills and experiences.

  • Algorithms & Data Structures - You will be able to explain times when you have implanted certain algorithms in order to fix a problem and how you choose the best Data Structures for the task at hand.
  • An understanding of Python - You do not need to be able to code in Python, simply be able to read it.
  • API knowledge - In previous positions you will have consumed API's and understand the process that goes into this.
  • SQL Queries - You will have a basic understanding of SQL Queries as this is one of the best ways to implement Spark and Scala code into quick results.

This company are one of the few certified companies to provide Google location services, and have been personally selected by Google to do that.

This role will definitely be a challenge and as the company scales you will naturally on more responsibilities and decision making, continue to learn more about the capabilities of Scala and Spark.
