Java Developer/Programmer

  • Developing, introducing and maintaining appropriate systems, including SOPs, to ensure CCP follows best practice and that this complies with all regulations regarding clinical research data
  • Providing advice to staff on clinical trial application design, clinical trial application lifecycles and best practice. To better manage expectations, ensure Chief Investigators and Project Managers understand the roles and responsibilities of Application Programmers
  • Ensuring best practice is followed so as to warrant the highest level of support, data accuracy and security for all clinical research data collected and managed by the centre
  • Liaison with BCC IT, JRMO, ITS and other external (e.g. NHS, CRUK) managerial staff in order to ensure the centre has adequate infrastructure and support to run clinical trials in a variety of environments
  • Advising on and undertaking database programming as appropriate
  • Providing continuous training to the wider research teams on database use and maintenance
  • Undertaking such other duties as may be reasonably expected by your line manager or Director

Oversight of data protection and information governance:

  • Giving accurate and appropriate advice regarding data protection and management to centre and clinical trial staff
  • Carrying out software audits to ensure centre is compliant with data protection and Clinical trial regulations
  • To keep abreast of off-the-shelf clinical trial application software solutions and be aware of how these are deployed within other CTU’s within the UK

Line management of a team including:

  • Leading, motivating and developing staff within the team
  • Prioritising and allocating workloads within the team to ensure effective delivery of applications across the portfolio
  • Identifying the training requirements of the team to ensure operational objectives and, where appropriate, personal development goals are met
  • Providing and / or co-ordinating training and support where required
  • Conducting annual appraisals to review progress, set objectives and identify areas for developmen
  • Ensure that members of the CCP are fully aware and comply with the College/Trust policies and procedures in relation to confidentiality, health and safety at work and all local safety rules
