Java Application Support Analyst with Linux skills required to support our customers with their technical enquiries. Working with our First Line support team who triage the incidents, you will resolve customer's issues as quickly as possible whilst ensuring that our customers experience the minimum of impact. You will have commercial experience of troubleshooting and supporting Java applications running on Linux and previous application Java development skills
We are looking for a proactive Java Application Support Analyst Support as a large part of the role will be for you to come up with new ideas and solutions to prevent a problem occurring in the first place.
Working with our numerous Agile Teams, you will be able to understand new developments and provide guidance on possible issues that may arise as well passing on suitable information to the rest of the team.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Application Support
- Diagnosing and fixing issues on the Ecommerce Environment.
- Monitor the application performance of the systems.
- Identify possible causes of breakdowns.
- Build Monitoring dashboards and alerts in our Monitoring tool so that we can get early warnings of issues.
- Build up plans for application patching.
A combination of the following skills and experience are required:
- OS flavours such as UNIX, Solaris, LINUX
- Exposure to Java web applications
- Unix scripting (e.g. perl and bash) desirable
- Excellent all-round communication skills
- Good customer service skills and a good understanding of customer focus and updates
- Incident and problem management is beneficial (preferably ITIL)
- Excellent delivery focus and commitment
- Team player, able to learn/adapt quickly and take responsibility

As part of the Technology Department, the Operations Team work to ensure that our systems are always available to our customers.
Although a relatively small team, we cover everything from software applications, databases, networking and servers through to desktops / laptops and even mobile phones.
We work with a number of areas of the business to understand their ever changing needs and developments, along with a number of third parties who are based in and outside the office.
This role falls is working with the Ecommerce team who maintain a number of Java based applications. Our key application is our Customer Websites which are fast approaching a Billion Pound Turnover per year and is already used by 60% of our customers.
We also manage a number of other applications, some internal facing, some external, built using the Java Stack using a variety of Technologies.
Finally, with over 500,000 products on our site, and with over 1 million customers worldwide, this results in a lot of data that has to be managed.
