Advancing People Recruitment is recruiting for an Information Security Engineer to join a rapidly growing, dynamic organisation whose head office is in Bedford.

This is a hands on position, candidates must have strong experience of working in an operational, hands on capacity. The successful IT Security Engineer will have experience of working within an IT Security operational role, with a strong understanding of a number of security domains such as Incident Response, Intrusion methods, Attack Monitoring, Networks, Threat and Vulnerability Management. However candidates must also have the communication and interpersonal skills required to persuade and influence business functions and technical teams.

The IT Security Operations Engineer will have a remit to help build out and define IT Security for the hosted operation. You will function as a technical security subject matter expert and ensure that the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information systems are maintained to protect customer, corporate and 3rd party data.

The role will be responsible for risk assessment of systems and solutions. You will be responsible for maintaining secure infrastructure. Auditing and organising the security testing of systems and infrastructure. You must have technical knowledge across the Microsoft technology stack, Cloud Services (Azure), networking technologies and a background in application support with a greater level of expertise in one or more areas. You should have a good knowledge of security practices working in a regulated environment and the flexibility to work out of hours will be required, including on call.

Main Responsibilities

  • Manage external penetration tests of applications and infrastructure
  • Perform vulnerability scans and manage the remediation of risks (assign to engineers)
  • Assess technical controls and identify areas of improvement
  • Manage and monitor system security to include hardening, anti-malware and patching
  • Manage application security patches ensuring updates are applied
  • Maintain and develop security monitoring, logging and auditing
  • Conduct periodic user access control assessments
  • Provide input into new software and infrastructure designs
  • Maintain and document key management processes and procedures
  • Train and advise team members in security related topics
  • Evaluate security incidents for impact and develop incident response for new SaaS products
  • Represent the department in Security programs (egGDPR)
  • Assess SaaS products for compliance to Security Standards
  • Liaise with key members of staff to ensure security knowledge is kept up to date as well as building internal relationships
  • Develop business policies or standards where appropriate
  • Perform risk assessments and maintain risk registers
  • Conduct with 3rd party vendor security assessments
  • Work in collaboration with other Security functions at the business, division and global level
  • Collaborate on security related interests across business departments
  • Keep up to date with the threat landscape and advise the business accordingly
  • Maintain awareness of developments in cloud security and Microsoft Azure


  • Knowledge of MS Windows Server security administration
  • A proven track record of maintaining security in a business critical environment
  • Experience in penetration testing of software products
  • Experience in performing vulnerability scans
  • In depth understanding of the technical aspects of Information Security
  • Knowledge of IT security principals, techniques and technologies
  • Experience in securing cloud based infrastructure
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure (highly beneficial)
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 27001 and Cyber Security Essentials
  • Experience of monitoring, logging and auditing of systems
  • Experience in Risk Management
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure (highly beneficial)
