Our client operates within the professional services sector and has a permanent vacancy for an IT Project Manager. This role would suit a motivated individual who is an exceptional communicator, possesses detailed awareness of IT infrastructure and systems and with very strong project oversight, analysis and reporting abilities. Travel to other offices will be required.

The IT Project Manager is responsible for developing and managing the tactical delivery of the firm’s IT projects to agreed timescales and budget, ensuring they remain within the scope of any statement of works (SoW) agreed with the firm’s software suppliers.

The role holder is required to identify and lead a key project team within the IT department, as well as identifying other resources within the firm critical to the different project phases, e.g. Legal Teams in all sites, Finance, HR, Business Development, Marketing and other superusers across all departments.


  • A good understanding/working knowledge of the firm’s core business areas and their working processes, IT systems and infrastructure.

  • Regularly visit the firm’s offices identifying the requirements linked to IT projects.

  • Promoting and championing the use of the new systems being introduced.

  • Maintain monthly communications to the firm on the progress of project delivery; through effective use of email, office visits, floor walking or workshops.

  • Produce and manage a project schedule that details project timelines with associated tasks, milestones and resource requirements/responsibilities.

  • Define, schedule and accurately estimate the task duration to develop and maintain a realistic schedule.

  • Ensure maximum visibility of the project schedule so that project team can manage their workloads priorities and diaries.

  • Meet regularly with the project team and associated resources to discuss status updates, chart progress, time commitments and availability ensuring that resources are available particularly at key stages of the projects.

  • Report to the IT Director, either directly as required or through a monthly report to discuss/relay project status, timescales and budget.

  • Work closely with software suppliers on project management and service management costs ensuring full accountability of the services that we are being charged for.

  • All services costs challenged when necessary with the supplier if services have not met with our acceptance.

  • Manage and document any issues and risks on a register/log.

  • Aim to resolve issues as they arise quickly so as to not take projects off-track.

  • Proactively identify project risks and communicate them to the project team so that they are fully aware of any plans that have been put in place to avoid them.

  • Collate and manage project data, such as status reports from the project team to see if the actual progress of the projects is meeting with what was initially planned.

  • Adjust or reallocate resources to accommodate any changes that come through.

  • Reporting and documentation; project teams will require more detailed reporting, whilst stakeholders will be looking for broader data to check the projects’ progress.

  • Ensure that all documentation is collected, signed off and archived electronically for the auditing and logging purposes

  • Work closely with the Business Analyst (BA), mentoring and giving guidance on project management processes and methodologies

Qualifications, skills and experience

Minimum 5 years’ experience in Project Management

Experience of implementing core legal business applications including PMS, DMS and CRM

Knowledge of managing projects and resources to tight deadlines, with efficiency and accuracy

Experience of working in either a SME or functional support in a larger organisation

PRINCE2, Agile or similar qualification
