Position Overview

The IT manager is responsible for all IT related matters, like Service Support & Operations, Infrastructure Delivery & Improvement, Application Services and Contracting. In addition to directing work activities of the team, the job may also execute the senior work activities.

Roles and responsibilities

Fugro are seeking an innovative and strategic IT Manager who can not only lead an established team and take full responsibility for IT Operations to ensure systems are capable of meeting current IT demands, but who can also engage with the business and drive the IT support of the future.

This is a rewarding and challenging opportunity for an experienced IT Manager who is particularly skilled in the areas of people management, business needs analysis and business improvement who can immerse themselves in the innovation work that is currently being undertaken around the organisation and assist with shaping the Fugro of the future.

The IT Manager will be responsible for the day to day management, training and development of a team of 10 direct reports, some of which are based in Portchester, Hampshire as well as for the IT provision in Wallingford, Cambridge, Consett and Manchester so this role will require some travel (likely a couple of times a month).

Key responsibilities for this role will include but are not limited to:

  • Leading strategic planning and influencing and driving new initiatives within the business;

  • Leading the direction and implementation of the company IT strategies, policies and procedures;

  • Leading, motivating, training and developing IT support staff as well as managing health & safety for the team;

  • Implementing and supporting IT systems and software for use within the various Fugro sites;

  • Engagement with the business on new IT technology and software in support of the company business lines as well as process and systems improvement;

  • Maintaining the smooth and efficient operation of the Fugro IT systems, infrastructure and back up facilities to ensure comprehensive and leading-edge IT services;

  • Managing the specification, configuration, maintenance, administration and support of installed IT business systems including but not limited to:

  • Telephone Systems and data communication;

  • Internal Security;

  • Email and office servers;

  • PC’s and workstations;

  • Installed software;

  • Mobile phones and tablets;

  • External internet connection;

  • Cloud technology.

  • Providing management information to the Management team as required;

  • Managing the administration of company financial accounting and reporting systems;

  • Preparation of IT budgets;

  • Liaison with Country and Regional IT Managers on all IT related issues as required.


Qualifications required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a science or business/technology related subject, ideally Computer Science;

  • An Information Technology Business Management qualification is desirable.

    Skills required:

  • Ability to think strategically and analyse business needs and problems to develop effective solutions;

  • Exceptional communication skills;

  • Strong leadership skills with a coaching and mentoring approach to leading a team;

  • Proven knowledge of IT architecture, security and governance;

  • Sound understanding of cloud-based technology;

  • Excellent organisational skills.

    Experience required:

  • Previous experience in a similar role as an IT Manager;

  • Extensive business needs analysis experience;

  • Proven experience of managing projects, working with and influencing multiple and senior stakeholders;

  • Proven experience leading business change.
