IT Manager- Vertas Group Limited


£30,000 to £35,000

Main Purpose of the Job:

  • To enable and support the delivery of Professional / Technical services to customers
  • The management and provision of expert advice
  • Escalation point for other staff requiring advice and assistance with complex issues
  • Undertake systems reviews
  • Take a strategic overview for the Vertas Group and Suffolk County Council as appropriate.
  • To project manage the full life cycle of projects to customer agreed requirements and to ensure the best use of resources.

Key Relationships:

  • Report to a manager
  • Responsible for the task management of project team members
  • Regular contact with customers, both external & internal at all levels
  • Liaise with the Suffolk County Council IT team as required in order to maintain standards
  • Inform project sponsors of project status and escalating issues as and when required.

Main Activities and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a high level knowledge of project management best practice
  • Provide expert guidance on IT project management across the Vertas Group
  • Provide a strategic overview of customer requests to enable best value solutions to be recommended
  • Undertake detailed analysis of specific business requests including viability, impact and financial considerations
  • Monitor, lead and evaluate the implementation of specialist solutions to ensure requirements are met
  • Ensure that appropriate SLA’s, Performance indicators and other measures are met
  • Ensure all services are delivered in accordance with agreed policies, standards, procedures and guidelines and in accordance with best practice

Customer Support

  • Lead in the assessment and selection of suitable solutions
  • Ensure specialist solutions are compatible with existing systems/policies/legislation
  • Provide expert advice to customers
  • Provide briefings and reports to colleagues and senior managers as required
  • Provide strategic advice and guidance to senior managers on the interpretation of agreements / directives / policies / procedures
  • Anticipate future legislative impact on the organisation to deliver proactive advice and solutions

Operational Requirements

  • Take the lead on projects
  • Produce all the project management documentation
  • Manage project risks including development of contingency plans, including any change control
  • Identify opportunities that will have a measurable effect on profit and/or operational effectiveness
  • Estimate and plan the work, project resources, tasks and monitor progress against project plan and against budgets
  • Able to undertake investigation into project issues, remove blockers and provide resolution where possible

Level of Autonomy and Decision Making:

  • The post holder must be able to make day to day decisions, plan own work and use own initiative
  • Must be able to propose medium term plans for area of responsibility.
  • The post holder will ensure that projects are delivered successfully to time, are of the required quality and are within budget
  • The post holder must have a high level of autonomy with respect to work planning for self and others
  • The post holder will be a recognised expert in project management

Specialist Knowledge & Skills:


  • Extensive project management skills
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Strong planning skills to ensure deadlines are met, including longer term planning and complex dependencies
  • Sound knowledge of and accurate skills in Microsoft software packages, e.g. Word and Excel
  • In depth working knowledge of MS Project
  • Good inter-personal skills
  • In depth knowledge of project management tools and techniques
  • Experienced in setting up projects, putting governance in place and producing key documentation
  • Ability to manage projects from inception through to project closure
  • Competent in identifying & managing risks, issues and dependencies on projects


  • PRINCE2 Practitioner or other Project Management professional qualification
  • ITIL qualification
  • Experience in supporting business transformational change
