Is it Time for a Change?

Could you help us achieve excellence in remote and rural healthcare?

Would you like to have the time to address your patients’ needs, live within a community where you are appreciated and work with an extended team committed to providing the highest quality, patient-centred care? We are looking for motivated GPs with a passion for clinical care, a strong team-working track record, the ability to contribute to the community and to assist in the continuing development of an innovative islands practice.

Stronsay and Sanday are branches of the Orcades Practice (1,959 patients), which consists of 6 single-handed island practices with GPs and nurses providing 24/7 healthcare to the smaller islands of Orkney. Weekly videoconferences enable clinicians to share knowledge and experience to overcome professional isolation and provide strong peer support.

The posts involve daytime GMS work plus out of hours provision. The population of Stronsay is 340 with the GP also providing a weekly visiting service and ongoing support to the resident Nurse Practitioners of the neighbouring island of Eday, with a population of 116. The population of Sanday is 469. Study and annual leave allocations are built in to allow you to acquire and maintain the skills needed. Accommodation is provided.

The posts will appeal to experienced practitioners wishing to establish a healthier work life balance, consult at a civilised pace and rediscover the joy of true general practice. The posts are flexible and would suit a portfolio career incorporating other roles in the UK or overseas.

Rise to the challenge and enjoy the opportunity. The Stronsay and Sanday communities are cohesive, vibrant and supportive with excellent schools, good leisure facilities and amazing wildlife and scenery. Orkney has excellent transport links to the UK mainland; daily flights from Kirkwall are just an hour to all 4 major Scottish airports.
