We're currently looking for an Investigations Officer to join us on fixed term contract basis until March 2019. This role sits within our Investigations team and is based in our stunning riverside offices in London.
On a day to day basis, you’ll be involved in the following:
- Working as part of a team tasked with investigating complaints of professional misconduct against ACCA members, affiliates and firms (relevant person) so that appropriate disciplinary action can be taken to maintain the standards and reputation of ACCA and the accountancy profession, thereby protecting the public interest and delivering public value.
- Applying your specialist, professional and technical expertise to complaints with varying degrees of complexity (including sensitive and high profile complaints), to identify issues requiring research and/or further investigation
- Proactively control of your own case load to ensure complaints are progressed in a timely manner in order to achieve departmental targets and objectives
- Drafting clear and detailed reports of your findings and decisions, including allegations, ensuring that all decisions made are well-reasoned and articulated; and that decisions made in respect of cases are in accordance with ACCA's Rulebook and supported by documentary evidence
We’re looking for someone who:
- Is educated to degree level or equivalent, preferably with a legal background
- Has proven experience of investigating and prioritising a large and varied portfolio of cases
- Has demonstrable experience of investigating cases in a disciplinary/regulatory context - desirable
- Possesses confident and clear oral communication skills, with strong interpersonal skills to deal with people at all levels, with the ability to conduct interviews with complainants, complainees, members of the public and ACCA staff via the telephone
- Has excellent written communication skills to provide clear, concise and accurate written decisions, including the ability to draft detailed closure notes, reports of disciplinary allegations and witness statements for presentations to disciplinary committees
- Has the ability to collate and critically analyse information/documentation of both a general and technical nature, in order to identify salient points, apply relevant rules and regulations and make informed decisions on case closures and referrals to disciplinary assessors
