Purpose of the Job

Accountable for all assessment and verification practices across the I.T. and Computing Department by ensuring the following:

  1. Verifying assessment by:Â

a) Sampling assessments and providing feedback to the assessor

b) Monitoring assessment practice

c) Standardising assessment judgements

  1. The development and supporting of assessors

To provide support to Heads of Departments on curriculum development and innovation across

I.T. curriculum areas.

To support all delivery staff by informing Head of Department of best practice in teaching, learning and assessment and maintain effective standardisation practice.

Duties and Responsibilities

Maintain the Quality Assurance of the processes of assessment

Monitor the assessment processes undertaken by Trainers and, where appropriate, plan for improvement, including arranging relevant support and CPD to ensure assessment practice improves to the required standard

Liaise with Trainers on a regular basis to ensure continuity of the assessment process, learner achievement and the early completion of learner qualifications in line with agreed targets

Ensure that all evidence in learner portfolios meets internal quality and external awarding organisation standards and End Point Assessment requirements

Provide feedback from sampling to Trainers and Head of Departments highlighting best practice, issues or concerns to ensure improvements in assessment practice and robust performance management

Maintain the Quality Assurance of the processes of internal verification

Produce and maintain verification records and sampling plans, ensuring they are accurate and up to date as required by the awarding organisation and PET-Xi

To monitor and ensure that all data relevant to assessors and outcomes is captured accurately on data systems and remain up-to-date with the Awarding Organisations

Provide regular standardisation meetings in line with PET-Xi and the awarding organisation/EPA requirements

Champion good practice by identifying and sharing best practice across the organisation at standardisation meeting, through CPD and one-to-one support of Trainers

Other duties that may be reasonably assigned by the line manager

Disseminate new developments to staff members and support curriculum development

To develop and deliver training to Trainers as appropriate

Monitor Trainers relevant underpinning knowledge in respect of their assessment processes and support continued competence

Suggest improvements and alternative resources to improve the teaching and learning and engagement of learners

Review how resources are used by delivery staff, conduct observations and deep dive activity to support continuous improvement

Ensure efficiency in delivery is maximised

Train staff directly in critical areas of development

Skills and Experience

Have a good understanding of assessment requirements, qualification and frameworks and sector subject specific knowledge of the programmes being verified.

Have a minimum of 2 years experience of assessing/ working as an assessor

Experience of internal verification

Experience of conducting OLTA and knowing what outstanding teaching, learning and assessment looks like


· Level 3 Qualification or equivalent in I.T.

· Internal Quality Assurance qualified

· Current full driving licence

Salary Band

£25,000 - £30,000
