Interim Payroll Manager / Project Manager Finance

This is an exciting opportunity to work with a rapidly expanding engineering and services business on the South Coast. The business has grown to annual turnover in excess of £24m through organic sales contract wins as well as the recent acquisition of three competitors during the last 12 months. With projected turnover growth for 2018, the organisation is ready to implement a new Group online payroll system. With this in mind, the Finance Team is now recruiting for an Interim Payroll Manager to oversee the new system project.

The Role

The Interim Payroll Manager will be responsible for running the existing payroll process in conjunction with an existing outsourced solution whilst managing a new payroll system project from selection through to implementation and monitoring.

Detailed Tasks and Responsibilities Include:

  • Managing current payroll process including inputting timesheet data into spreadsheet, collating overtime and salary information and processing all relevant data into excel spreadsheet format
  • Liaising with outsourced payroll provider to provide spreadsheet in time for month end payroll
  • Distribution of payslips and answering queries
  • Mapping of existing payroll processes
  • Working with new payroll provider to map new processes required for new system
  • Project management to oversee new system implementation to include training to managers in the field, data input, report requests and trial runs
  • Roll out of new online timesheet system in the field
  • Close management of project in conjunction with new payroll provider
  • Monitoring of implementation, reporting and escalation of issues
  • Working closely with senior management team to understand reporting requirements and implementation in line with the needs of the entire business


The ideal candidate would have experience, qualities and qualifications as follows:

  • Management of payroll in SME environment
  • Project management experience in a systems environment
  • Keen eye for detail and accuracy
  • Respect for tight deadlines
  • Strong communicator - written and verbal
  • Confident and persuasive, capable of training senior managers and field staff
  • Ability to multi task and prioritise
