A local authority in London is recruiting for a Category Manager who will be responsible for a range of procurement projects. They are seeking an experienced and motivated procurement Category Manager with extensive experience of complex construction and capital projects to be an integral part of their team delivering sustained excellence and innovation across construction and capital programmes to benefit their citizens, businesses and staff.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Lead procurement in the management and delivery a range of significant projects across the Council’s capital delivery programme ensuring the delivery of the service meets all Council, professional and legislative requirements
  • Lead construction procurements including competitive dialogues, management and monitoring of contracts and supplier performance to ensure value and quality of delivery
  • Advise Directors, Members, staff, external consultants and others on complex procurement and contractual matters associated with capital projects.
  • Provide professional challenge and advice to colleagues, managers and partner organisations
  • Provide innovative procurement solutions to deliver high profile projects on time and on budget as a key member of multiple project delivery teams
  • Work closely with senior managers and colleagues to lead, develop, deliver and manage the supply chain that supports construction

Key Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge of experience of applying modern best practice construction procurement contracts from concept through to delivery
  • Delivering projects to time and budget using a structured method e.g. PRinCE2
  • Experience of construction-related procurement in a public sector environment, including procurement of developer partners
  • Practical understanding and application of the UK Public Contracts Regulations and associated legislation
  • Experience of using NEC3 and JCT forms of contract
  • Methodical and analytical with attention to detail ambition to move projects forward
