Insurable Risk Manager

Our client is looking for an Insurable Risk Manager to join their team.

Role:

  • Risk Manager in relation to reducing accidents and the cost of claims

  • Devising and delivering insightful and user-friendly Management Information reports to the Businesses

  • To manage public and employers liability claims through an external claims handling company and minimise, by effective risk management, the costs and risks arising out of such claims

  • Provide support to the existing in-house lawyers in relation to professional indemnity claims where required

  • Managing, minimising and mitigating any reputational risk in relation to personal injury claims

  • To provide technical and expert advice in relation to customer complaints following accidents in stores

  • An established risk profile of slips and trips and other incidents that give rise to personal injury claims

  • An incurred cost for these claims of c. £2.5m p.a.

  • An evolving claims culture with high rates of litigation

  • The need for excellent and insightful claims Management Information

  • Objective of reducing accidents and related claims costs

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that public and employer’s liability claims are resolved appropriately.

  • Managing external providers including a claims management provider and other external service providers including law firms in various jurisdictions.

  • Ensuring brand protection and minimising reputational risk.

  • Devising and delivering clear and insightful Management Information to the businesses at all levels. Communicating clear messages and next steps derived from the management information.

  • Identifying exposures that lead to accidents and claims, devising solutions, working with and influencing key stakeholders in the businesses to mitigate and avoid future losses. Influencing all employees to be 'Risk Managers’.

  • Working with key stakeholders to keep them advised of progress with claims and settlement strategies, key trends, legal developments, and how they can support the businesses in reducing the cost of claims. Making clear and insightful presentations on the cost of claims at all levels of the business and providing training and advice to enable colleagues to help mitigate such cost.

  • Liaising with Insurers as needed and ensuring any agreed Claims Protocol is applied at all times.

  • First point of contact for technical and pragmatic advice/support in relation to customer complaints relating to slips and trips and other accidents in stores and responding to any claims handling concerns or complaints. Managing one direct report.

Experience:

  • Significant experience of personal injury claims handling and litigation

  • Understands the importance of brand reputation and how to manage it successfully

  • Experience in an insurance company, law firm or in-house technical claims handling team

  • Highly competent liability claims handler and 'expert’ in field

  • Highly proficient with data. Able to devise and produce insightful management information

  • Has the ability to analyse the management information in order to implement risk management initiatives that will mitigate the future cost of claims

  • Risk management / loss avoidance experience

  • Significant experience of personal injury claims handling and litigation

  • Qualified lawyer or legal degree and/or ACII preferred

  • In-house experience preferred
