The Pets at Home Vet Group has undergone significant growth over the course of the last 4 years and now the largest vet group in the UK. We are an incredibly friendly and supportive team based in state of the art offices next to the Retail Outlet and Steam Museum. We are currently recruiting for a Regional People Advisor (although this is a regional role it is Swindon office based with occasional travel) reporting into the Lead Regional People Manager within the People team. The successful candidate will join the business at a hugely exciting time in the Vet Group’s journey and this role is key to the success in achieving the overall vision of the group. Main purpose of job

To deliver a proactive generalist HR service to Companion Care and Vets4Pets practices, with particular responsibility for a regional area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide timely, professional HR advice to Joint Venture Partners (JVPs) & colleagues particularly on HR policies, procedures, and terms & conditions of employment. This will be mainly telephone based and written, but could also be face to face where required

  • Take responsibility for cases in the region, proactively manage these cases to ensure they are concluded in a timely manner

  • Provide advice & guidance to the Regional Operations Team and JVPs on HR issues to promote HR best practice, minimise risk & ensure business performance

  • Coach and support colleagues from individual practices and the Operations Team who are involved in ER cases to ensure they fulfil their role effectively

  • Attend complex hearings / meetings to offer advice & note take if required

  • Prepare high quality outcome letters for individual cases

  • Maintain colleague records on the HR system, including processing changes in personal details, notification of maternity / paternity, resignations etc.

  • Input into HR reporting / management information as required

  • Maintain awareness of the impact of employment legislation changes and ensure up to date legal compliance in all HR activities.

  • Provide input to payroll activity & related administration

  • Involvement in regional operations meetings as required

  • Ad hoc project work

Experience Required

  • Previous Human Resources experience required, including guiding and support managers in HR / ER issues

  • Sound working knowledge of UK employment law essential

  • CIPD qualified or working towards qualification

  • A team player with exceptional communication and customer service skills, able to build collaborative working relationships with JVPs, the Operations Team and the wider People Team

  • Confidential, high integrity, enthusiastic, approachable, excellent written and verbal communication skills, well-organised

  • PC literate (Word processing, spreadsheets, databases)

This role is challenging, busy and very rewarding and you will be joining a team who are energetic and focused on achieving the highest standards and exceeding our partner’s expectations. Occasional travel may be required where face to face support is essential for particular situations.
