Main Purpose of the Job:

  • Assist in the development and updating of health and safety systems and policies in relation to Vertas operations its partners and clients
  • Represents Vertas as expert witness as required at Regional Meetings
  • Audit the health and safety systems and procedures in place across Vertas ensuring compliance with relevant legislative, statutory and local policies and procedures
  • Provide effective health and safety advice to Vertas operations managers, staff and clients
  • Assist in the management of CHAS accreditation
  • Assist with the Improvements of the operational efficiency of Vertas
  • Liaise with customers and other interested parties on quality matters
  • Monitor the Quality performance and to review the findings with the heads of service
  • Ensure that the Quality Manual is thorough and addresses all the needs presented by the business operations, and identify the control measures deemed necessary
  • Assist with the review the Quality Manual and ensure that it is discussed at regular operations meetings
  • Undertake Health & Safety Audits / Fire Risk Assessments, reporting findings and recommending actions for clients to take
  • Promote range of services to current and new clients

Main Activities and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the develop health and safety policies and procedures across all operations within Vertas to ensure that all service lines comply with national and European health and safety legislation and Vertas. Health & Safety Policies
  • Actively consult with Vertas managers and H&S agencies to meet immediate and longer term needs
  • Assist in the provision to provide risk management
  • Assist in the development and promotion of Health & Safety Policies and Procedures by being part of the shareholders Health and Safety Advisor's Group, Asbestos Advisory Group and Resource Management Health & Safety Group
  • Assist in the development and maintain quality procedures to ensure compliance with International Standards ISO 9001: 2008
  • Assist with the development of a programme of internal auditors to comply with International Standards ISO 9001:2008
  • Assist in the development and monitoring of Environmental Improvement plan in consultation with Heads of Service Managers
  • Assist in the development and monitoring of Section 17 Crime and Disorder improvement for Vertas in consultation with Heads of Services Managers
  • Assist in the growth and development of services provided to our clients and any new clients.
  • Assist in the development of new Health & Safety Policies as required

Health and Safety Assessments

  • Assist with the development and maintenance of the COSHH database and management system, including undertaking and recording COSHH assessments, audit results and data sheet provision to operations managers
  • Assist for ensuring the completion of workstation assessments
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of the risk assessment database and management system, including assessing and recording operational management risk assessments and audit results
  • Assist for undertaking or arranging risk assessments in relation to major issues, e.g. serious accidents, individual’s stress
  • Collaborate with operations managers to research and develop efficient and effective safe systems of work

Health and Safety Accident Reporting

  • Assist with the development and maintenance of the accident and near miss database and management system
  • Participate in the daily management of the accident and near miss system, including the completion and subsequent monitoring of all RIDDOR related accident investigations
  • Undertake investigations into RIDDOR related incidents

Health and Safety Audits

  • Undertake annual and ad hoc site audits of all aspects of operations at each customer site
  • Record the findings and work with operational managers, supervisors and employees to rectify any deficiency

Health and Safety Training

  • Assist with the development, deliver or commission health and safety training to managers, supervisors and employees in all aspects of safe practices at work in each of the service lines to meet legal, statutory and local requirements
  • Monitor attendance and awareness of compliance with procedures relating to safe systems at work and obligations for the safety of employees, contractors and others
