To work with the Head of HR and HR Department in the delivery of a professional and responsive HR service for the organisation, providing advice and guidance to managers on all operational Human Resources issues.

To provide professional advice and support to managers on matters relating to disciplinary, grievance, sickness absence, performance management issues and liaise with Trade Union Representatives as necessary. This includes attending meetings/hearings and advising on the process and outcome.

To assist the Head of HR and the HR team by undertaking proactive and reactive operational HR case work under the direction and guidance of the Head of HR. To ensure that all activity is properly recorded and monitored for equal opportunities purposes.

To coach and support Co owners and managers in all aspects of Human Resources management, including the appropriate policies and procedures, which may include investigation and resolution of specific HR related queries.

To provide timely, consistent, accurate and appropriate advice and support for managers during investigations and to advise at disciplinary/grievance panel hearings.

To provide advice and interpretative guidance and support to managers and Co owners on all terms and conditions including Agenda for Change, employment law, contract queries, annual leave, flexible working etc, and the application of all HR policies in line with best practice

Provide support to managers and Co owners in relation to consultations and organisational change including job design, redeployment, redundancy TUPE, etc.

Conduct exit interviews as required to investigate reasons for leaving and feedback any issues of concern to the appropriate manager.

To provide professional HR support in the recruitment process, as required, (e.g. sitting on recruitment panels for senior posts)

To participate in job matching / job evaluation panels that requires assessing job descriptions against nationally set profiles as and when required.

To attend and engage in monthly Staffside meetings, liaising with local representatives as appropriate.

Analyse information produced from the Exit Interview/Questionnaire process to identify issues and take action where necessary.

To undertake project work as directed by senior HR colleagues.

To ensure all personal/ HR data and files are kept and accessed securely, ensuring compliance with information governance requirements, the Data Protection Act and Freedom of Information Act.

 As required, develop new and revised HR policies and processes based on research of current legislation, best practice and operational needs of the organisation.

To assist in the development and review of Human Resource Management Policy and Procedure or Guidelines, ensuring compliance with up to date employment legislation

To actively participate in the development and implementation of initiatives as appropriate e.g. Investors in People, Agenda for Change, Equality and Diversity, Service Redesign.

To assist with the design and deliver training to line managers regarding new initiatives such as Policy awareness and management sessions and HR hot topics.

To maintain own personal development and to keep up to date with changes in employment legislation

Attend workshops, seminars and courses where agreed as appropriate with Line Manager.

Ensure an up to date knowledge base is shared throughout the HR Team regarding best practice, and issues regarding the provision of the HR service as a whole

Evidence of Continuing Professional Development

Evidence based generalist HR experience which involves advising managers on all HR issues

Experience of handling employee relations issues e.g. Grievance, Disciplinary etc.

Experience of using HR databases to record and access information

Up to date knowledge of Employment Law & Best Practice

Ability to build positive relationships with managers, colleagues, trade unions etc.

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively to all levels of staff / management

Ability to plan, organise and work to tight deadlines

Ability to persuade and negotiate

Willing and able to travel to a variety of sites

Excellent team player & ability to work autonomously

Manage a varied workload & prioritise accordingly

Ability to remain calm under pressure<b
