About the team

Working in a highly matrixed structure, you will work closely with your colleagues in the UK HR team to support the consistent and timely introduction of people initiatives within Pearson in the UK. You will provide a first-class support to the UK HR team and assist in driving continuous improvements to support our cultural transformation.

Whilst working as part of the apprenticeship team, your days will vary considerably. An example being attending an event with our apprentices, you could be assisting in organising a stakeholder meeting or designing an internal marketing leaflet.

You will work closely with the Apprenticeship Programme Manager and Head of Employee Apprenticeships but often remotely! You will have the opportunity to communicate with and work alongside employees at all levels throughout Pearson UK. You will also work with the UK HR team, supporting different initiatives, promoting and supporting wellbeing activities, as well as assisting in dealing with employee relations matters.

About the role

We are looking for an energetic and proactive person with a passion for HR and L&D who is interested in developing themselves in a practical way. The role requires someone who is flexible, demonstrates initiative and enjoys a job that is different every day.

You must like working with people and enjoy supporting others in their development. You will have dedicated project responsibilities that will require you to be logical, well prepared and able to produce accurate data in a variety of different formats.

You will work closely with the Employee Relations and Wellbeing manager supporting and driving wellbeing initiatives across Pearson in the UK, as well as supporting the UK HR team in the delivery of various initiatives as well as support in employee relations cases.

You will also work closely with Programme Manager in developing the programmes’ internal social media communication and support in the administration for conferences, events, career fairs and social media.

What you will gain from undertaking an Apprenticeship with us

During the Business Administration level 3 (Advanced) Apprenticeship, the post holder will gain an accredited qualification and possibly Functional skills level 2 (if not held already). Additionally, the post holder will gain certificated recognition for good progress and attainment with the addition of achieving internal training courses. The apprenticeship will typically take 12-18 months.

The post holder will be a full member of the HR Core team based in the UK and as such will undertake a range of activities relevant to the role of HR Assistant. Experience will be wide and varied as fits a role that has the benefit of focusing on HR and Learning and Development across the varied business units in the UK.

Key Accountabilities:


  • Support the initiatives tailored to increase awareness and engagement of employee wellbeing, and the Pearson UK offering with line managers, employees and the UK HR team.

  • Support delivery of wellbeing training needs

  • Assist with communications, updating Neo page, promoting wellbeing activities across UK

  • Process invoices from occupational health providers

  • Work with the Employee Relations Manager in analysis of wellbeing trends

  • Proactively identify new opportunities to introduce or boost initiatives and support project management through to realising those opportunities and adding value

Employee Relations

  • Assist in development and implementation of UK employment policies, procedures and guidelines

  • Support manager upskilling projects, by scheduling meetings, booking rooms, administrative support and other ad hoc requirements

  • Support HR UK team with ER cases, including taking notes of the meeting, administrative tasks following any hearings, filing of notes and outcome letters

  • Review and update ER case trackers

  • Assisting in any organisational change activities, by providing administrative support and assisting with logistics

HR Support

  • Support HR UK team with projects related to all employee lifecycle activities, such as performance assessment, talent management and reward cycles


  • To lead the Learner Voice strategy encompassing organising Learner Voice training, co-ordinating learner and line manager engagement in the various activities outlined in the strategy. Analysing and reporting on outcomes from surveys and taking action to improve.

    To organise internal events and training including celebration of success events, internal communications events and apprentice, line manager and mentor training.<
