Primary Job Function
To undertake personal care for people in their own homes.
To provide and assist with the personal care of people in their own homes
Personal care will include the following activities:
Bathing, washing, dressing, helping people to toilet, changing incontinence pads, emptying catheter bags. Supervising and assisting people to take medicines, applying creams and lotions where dressings are not required.
To report to the Home Care Management any matters of concern relating to the personal condition and home environment of the person being visited.
To take responsibility and use initiate in dealing with emergencies
To maintain up to date records in the person’s home in relation to visits and tasks carried out.
To provide and assist with the preparation of meals if required as part of a care plan.
To provide and assist with housework tasks where required as part of a care plan which will include the emptying and cleaning of commodes.
To provide and assist with laundry where required as part of a care plan which will include ironing, and bagging up of soiled linen for collection by the incontinence laundry service.
To purchase shopping, collecting prescriptions, pensions, charges, etc and arrange for payment of bills if necessary.
To assist with letter writing, completion of forms, arranging appointments with the hospital, doctor dentist etc.
Escorting people to day centres or shopping etc. If required as part of the care plan.
To maintain a close working relationship with family or other agencies e.g. district nurses, agency staff who may be involved jointly in the care of the individual.
Assisting with the care of children by getting them ready for school and escorting them to and from school.
At all times respecting the rights and choice of the individual including the need to take into account their cultural and religious beliefs.
To maintain confidentiality at all times.
To participate and attend regular team meetings with other home carers.
To contribute to review meetings as part of an individual’s care plan.
Use and assist others to use information technology systems to carry out duties in the most efficient and effective manner.
At all times carrying out the responsibilities/duties within the framework of the Council’s Equal Opportunities Policy.
Ensure that all services within the area of responsibility are provided in accordance with Council’s commitment to high quality service provision to users.
Carry out duties in accordance with Health and Safety Policy and relevant Health and Safety legislation, ensuring that health and safety requirements, including lifting and handling and risk assessment are understood and compiled with within the delivery of the Home Care Service.
Such other minor and non-recurring duties appropriate to the post as may be directed.
