High Potential Shift Production Managers - Technical Manufacturing

The primary mission of the Shift Production Managers is to develop and maintain an organisation capable of operating production, warehouse and delivery functions in a safe and efficient manner. Incumbents are expected to continuously seek ways to overcome obstacles to improve productivity, service level, quality, safety, efficiency, and creativity. The Shift Production Manager must promote continuous improvement in methods, systems, and procedures, while continuing to encourage teamwork, reduce costs and develop employee potential.
Provide for the efficient administration of plant operations.
Assist as needed to justify and initiate capital expenditure requests and requests for employee additions and replacements.
Recruit, interview and select Plant personnel. Ensure employee development through training and delegation of responsibility; assist employees in career planning.
Analyse and initiate efforts to control costs.
Operate the plant with a high emphasis on safety and accident prevention. Conduct or attend all monthly safety meetings.
Initiate employee counselling, coaching or disciplinary sessions where appropriate to maintain safety, quality, and productivity.
Develop and implement procedures designed to improve plant operations.
Ensure employees are managing their reviews commensurate with a system that recognises high performance and supports the growth and development of the workforce.
Review and approve expenses and costs related to plant operation. Explore opportunities for cost reduction.
Supervise the development and implementation of work schedules for teams
Educate employees on district operating policies and procedures.
Respond to periodic requests for information from Site Leader and corporate functions.
Encourage operations employees to offer creative and innovative solutions to problems, which impede plant growth and profitability.
Monitor and assure the proper maintenance of plant and equipment. Support the development and implementation of an effective preventive maintenance program.
Suggest changes in plant layout and design where appropriate.
Applying Lean Manufacturing principles, submit recommendations for the addition of material handling and processing equipment where needed.
Monitor the effectiveness of distribution and receiving operations. Drive efficiency improvements in scheduling and utilisation.
Monitor the utilisation of plant equipment, rolling stock and manpower in a lean environment.
Reduce and eliminate where possible circumstances which may lead to the personal injury of employees, or loss or damage of company equipment. Monitor and maintain an effective safety program.
Promote a positive employee environment that will encourage all employees to participate in their growth and the growth of the site.
Create an atmosphere of continuous improvement in all facets of the operation; move to increase self-directed work and less direct supervision of employees through the implementation of Lean Manufacturing.
Actively promote excellent customer service through example, training, and ensuring that commitments to customers are met, including delivery promises, special instructions and processing tolerances.
Must be able to concentrate and maintain productivity in high-pressure situations.
Degree educated or equivalent
Ideally completed a graduate scheme in a leading high risk manufacturing environment and then moved into a production or manufacturing Shift Management role
Experience with, and understanding of, Lean Manufacturing principles.
Previous experience in a technical high risk Manufacturing environment preferred.
Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification a plus.
An in depth understanding or ERP applications
Strong analysis and interpretation skills
High level of communication (oral and written), interpersonal skills
Ability to lead and inspire a group of employees 25-50 employees
Strong at problem solving
Fosters an environment of developing group cooperation and teamwork,
Has previous experience promoting safety attitudes and practices
Capable coach and takes employee development and personnel practices seriously.
