Building upon the UK’s reputation for clinical excellence and through academic affiliations, the Proton Beam Therapy centres will become hubs of excellence for advanced cancer treatment.

Cancer care in the UK will soon be transformed with the provision of Proton Beam Therapy treatment.

Patients will be able to take advantage of highly specialised treatment at the first Proton Beam centres to be built in the UK - in Wales, Northumberland, Liverpool and Reading.

Our client has started the process to build the treatment centres to address the growing global demand for innovative cancer care.

In addition to High Energy Proton Beam Therapy, all of the centres will also offer a comprehensive cancer service offering diagnostics, chemotherapy and radiation therapy and will treat NHS patients, private patients under medical insurance and self-pay patients.

Job Role:

Healthcare Information Systems Manager

Job Purpose

As the Healthcare Information Systems Manager, the role is responsible for the management of all IT Service Delivery, based in Newport, United Kingdom. This includes the management of the Operations, Support and PACS Teams. These teams are responsible for the availability, performance and overall reliability of the IT/Oncology platform. Including Day to day customer support and support of PACS systems. This role requires a deep technical understanding of Oncology Information and Treatment Planning Systems.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Candidates will be expected to accomplish healthcare information technology staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counselling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures. They will provide priority support to the above infrastructure teams, to enable them to meet customer expectations.
  • Thorough knowledge of oncology systems, how they work and function in a patient/doctor environment both private and public.
  • Thorough knowledge of treatment planning systems, clinical workflow and physics processes.
  • Understanding and design of Physics Quality Assurance systems, devices and workflow in a centralised infrastructure.
  • Management of the IT Operations Team, IT Support Team and PACS Team.
  • Line Management Responsibilities to the leads of these teams.
  • Maintain high performing service support functions.
  • Monthly Service and Statistical Reporting to relevant Stake Holders.
  • Ensure/Conduct Monthly Customer Service Meetings are held at regular intervals.
  • Understand and Implement Customer Requirements
  • Ensure Service Levels are met as agreed.
  • Ensure ownership is taken for and provide priority support to all client systems, ranging from critical incidents to proactively working on preventative measures by learning and questioning the status of the platform, taking ownership and ensuring issues are not forgotten following resolution.

  • Travel within the UK will be expected, and full driving license required.

Place of Work

Your normal place of work will be Newport; however, you may/will be required to travel in the course of your duties to attend meetings and other appointments. Travel and reasonable expenses will be paid in line with the Company’s Expenses Policy.
